Chapter 5 Why Her?

951 Words
The eldest lady of the Cresswell family! Everyone was stunned, realizing it was a misunderstanding. Regina's face turned pale. She took pride in being the Cresswell heiress, which was why she screwed Allison up, to keep her out of the public eye. There could only be one Cresswell heiress, and that was supposed to be her! Something had to be wrong. Regina fought to keep her composure. "Professor Hudson," she said, "My sister was expelled last year for skipping classes and fighting. Are you sure you have the right person?" Regina straightened her back, her voice filled with confidence. "Professor Hudson, I've consistently been at the top of my class and I very look up to you. It would be an honor to be your student." A student expelled for fighting and lacking skills or knowledge was unlikely to have good grades, after all. When Regina introduced herself to Charles, his assistant leaned in and whispered something. Charles' expression darkened, and he looked at Regina with a frown. "Who I choose as my student is my business," he said coldly. "Don't assume I have to choose you just because you have good grades." Charles' words were a harsh blow, shattering Regina's remaining hope. Her face paled. "But my sister, she..." Charles cut her off impatiently. "Character is what matters most to me in a student. You schemed against your own sister. No matter how impressive your grades are, you're not fit to be my student." Regina's face drained of color as if someone had slapped her face hard. Tears welled up in her eyes. "My parents already explained what happened. Someone was trying to drive a wedge between my sister and me, so they set me up." Charles smiled. "Are you willing to swear on your academic and your future that you didn't do those things?" Regina opened her mouth but didn't dare to swear. "It seems you really did those things, Ms. Regina Cresswell. Otherwise, why wouldn't you just swear it isn't true?" Charles pressed on. "All the evidence points to Ms. Regina Cresswell framing her own sister, yet the Cresswells insist someone else is trying to stir up trouble between them. Let's be real, Ms. Cresswell has never even been to New York. Who would bother to frame her?" Charles' words were crystal clear, exposing the Cresswell family's blatant favoritism towards Regina and clearly standing up for Allison. Nobody expected Charles to value Allison so much. The crows couldn't help but look at Allison in a new light. What was so special about her? "Aren't you curious why Professor Hudson suddenly came to the banquet for Ms. Cresswell?" As soon as Allison said that, everyone's eyes turned to her. Charles skirted past the Cresswells and practically ran up to Allison as if terrified she'd disappear if he didn't hurry. "Allison..." Charles said, his voice thick with surprise. Allison didn't even bother to look up. "What do you want?" Ugh, not this old geezer again. Ever since she'd developed the H compound last year, he had been trying to contact her. After repeatedly turning him down, he had now come to the birthday banquet. Charles flashed a fawning smile. "It's about that little proposal of mine. Join my team, and I'll not only get you into Falcon University, but you'll also have unlimited access to my lab." "Not interested!" Allison sternly refused. A wave of envy rippled through the crowd. Charles had asked her to join his team! And she actually turned him down! This was the opportunity everyone would kill for it! Allison went back to her game, completely ignoring Charles' pleas. Seeing Allison blatantly disrespect Charles, Holden frowned and barked, "How dare you speak to Professor Hudson like that?" Charles furrowed his brows. "Ms. Cresswell isn't afraid to be herself. She's genuine. You're her father, for God's sake. How can you speak to your own daughter like that? People might think she's adopted!" Holden's face turned livid. He was trying to defend Charles, and yet he was the one being scolded. Regina, sitting nearby, shot Allison a venomous look. She had desperately wanted to be Charles' student, but he had not only rejected her but also publicly criticized her. Meanwhile, this uneducated hick Allison had somehow won his favor. She couldn't stand the thought of being outshone by Allison! Unable to contain his curiosity, Byron asked Charles, "Professor Hudson, why did you want Allison to join your team?" Charles started to explain but realized that the news of Allison developing the H compound would only attract more competition. He simply said, "Oh, Ms. Cresswell did me a favor once, and I've been meaning to thank her." Regina scoffed inwardly. So, Charles had only invited Allison as a way to repay a debt. Well, even with the support of a giant like Charles, what could an i***t like Allison possibly accomplish? With the SATs just three months away, even Allison wanted to get into Falcon University, it was just a pipe dream! Regina smirked. She knew Allison couldn't hold a candle to her. But when faced with Regina's sneer, Allison just turned her head indifferently, clearly not bothering with her... Regina was fuming. How dare she ignore her! She would crush this country bumpkin in every possible way with her strength! As Allison turned, she caught the eye of the man she'd slept with at the hotel. He was staring at her intently. What was he doing at her grandfather's birthday party? Was he following her here? Tristan waved the bank card she had given him, and her face instantly fell. She marched straight over to him. Allison's hands balled into fists. "What are you doing here? Stalking me?"
