Chapter 7

Ezra's POV Having a beautiful woman for a chef has got to be the most distracting thing ever. It's difficult to concentrate these days, especially when she's around me. I really don't know what draws me to her but I can't deny the attraction at this point. It runs deeper than her physical looks. Though that's a huge factor as well but I can't seem to place my hand on what this is all about and it annoys me. How does one get over their hot chef? The subtle sounds from the kitchen tells me that Carissa is up and I walk towards the breakfast nook. We exchange stiff greetings when the girl from last night walks in. I hate it when they linger and I've warned them against it. This particular one though is one of my oldest and best girls so I let it slide for just today. She could have breakfast and be on her way. I'm not offering more than that. She sits beside me and plops a loud kiss on my cheek as she caresses my thigh. I move to stop her not liking it one bit but an idea pops into my mind. I could taunt my hot chef using her. I love it when she's all riled up and my goal this morning is to get that reaction out of her. Carissa drops a jug of water on the table and her eyes linger on my guest. I seize the opportunity to act. “How did you sleep, sugar?” I ask Leila or Lesley. Whatever her name is, I can't seem to remember. I don't care to know the names of the girls I sleep with. That information isn't important but I think she's Leila. She looks like a Leila. “Asides from the fact that you kept me up all night, I'd say pretty good” Leila answers, looking directly at Carissa. I see she feels threatened because she just lied. We had just one round last night and I couldn't even finish. It all felt wrong and disgusting because all I could think about in that moment was Carissa sleeping next door and it smeared my mood. I left immediately to my room after but if Leila chooses to go this route, I could well agree. It serves the purpose. I glance at Carissa and catch her staring at me but she averts her gaze immediately our eyes meet. “You enjoyed every bit of it, didn't you?” I tuck a loose strand of Leila’s hair behind her ears and she grins like a child given candy. “Of course I did. You're a beast at it so…” she chews on grapes from the fruit basket. Carissa sets the table and turns to leave to the open plan kitchen. I glance at her from where I'm seated to see her load the dish washer and clean up the counter, putting spices back in place. I take a bite of the food and it tastes heavenly. My hot chef is a master at what she does, I’d give her that. She makes even healthy meals taste amazing. I grab a second bite and immediately spit it out. Carissa looks up and begin walking towards me. “Are you okay? Do you need water?” she moves to pour water into a glass cup. “What the hell is this, Carissa? How do you expect me to eat this rubbish?” I demand. “Is anything wrong with the food?” she asks “You tell me” I relax on my chair, staring harder at her. “I made sure to taste before serving and everything was perfect” she says, giving me a confused look and I just want to kiss that look off her face. “You sure have damaged taste buds if you didn't find anything wrong with this food. Remake it” I state, leaving no room for further arguments. She holds my gaze for a bit before clearing the table and returning to the kitchen. I watch her remake everything without taking my eyes off her. Leila tries to grab my attention but I pay her no mind. Carissa returns to the table and serves a freshly made plate and I dig in. “Have you suddenly lost your touch, miss chef? You don't seem to get anything right this morning. Take this away and remake it” I state again. She takes a deep breath and stares at the food. I see her composure threatening to break loose but she riles it in. She doesn't utter a word as she returns to the kitchen to make a fresh meal. I'm enjoying every bit of this and the look she has on her face as she remakes the same meal for the third time is murderous but cute and I can't help but stare. She returns again with another plate and I reject it outrightly and this time she gives me a hard look before quickly masking it. She goes to remake it for the fourth time. And I must say, each new plate tastes better than the former and I hate that I have to waste such delicious meals but I'd do anything to get on her last nerves. Leila had given up trying to get my attention and has since been busy with her phone. Carissa returns again with a new plate of food and after tasting it, I decide to let her off the hook. “This is bad but I can manage it. I'm running late for work anyways. But you know you have to do better if you really want to keep your job. I don't pay you that much to make tasteless meals, miss chef” I smirk at her and she gives me a practiced smile. “Noted, Mr. Ezra” she turns immediately and disappears into the pantry, leaving me with Leila. Now, I'm the one getting riled up. I hate it when she adds Mr. to my name and she knows it. “Eat up. You need to be on your way. You have overstayed already. My driver would drop you off” I say to Leila without looking up from my food. “You didn't tell me you hired pretty women as chefs. And besides, what was all that banter about?” she asks in a jealous tone. I drop my cutlery and face her. “You are here for only one job. Stick to that and stop poking your nose into the affairs of my house. Who I hire as my staff is none of your business. Now eat up and be on your way” I return to my food without sparing her another glance. She huffs angrily and storms out, heading upstairs. I down the cup of water when Carissa returns to clear the table. She doesn't look at me and moves to the kitchen. I stand up immediately and follow her. “Do you need anything Mr Ezra?” she asks in a fake sweet voice. “Trying to get smart with me?” I move closer to her. She doesn't move back and only stares up at me. “I was just asking if you need anything else” she retorts. “This sweet mouth of yours might get you in huge trouble someday” I stare at her lips before landing my gaze on her pretty brown eyes. “Did I do anything wrong? You made me remake the same meal four times” she says, exasperated. “If you had done a good job, I wouldn't have demanded that of you” I tell her, moving closer. She makes to respond but decides against it. “Good girl” I whisper close to her ears and stand straight. “I’m running late. I need to be at the office” I look at my watch. “Don’t bother about dinner. I'll be working late today” I say as I grab my case from the table and head out.
