Chapter 2: The Silent Predator

453 Words
The high-stakes world of the Singh Empire didn't allow for mistakes. After the intense confrontation with her grandparents, Abhi locked her bedroom door, letting out a breath that shook with fear. Inside these four walls, she was not the unyielding Prince of Singh Empire; she was just a girl named Abhi, tired of carrying the world’s heaviest mask. She stand before the full-length mirror, looking at her reflection. Slowly, she began to unwrap the tight chest binder that constracted her womanhood, each layer removed felt like breaking a new shackle. Once free, she could feel the cold moonlight from the balcony against her skin. She reached for the small, hidden bottle of jasmine oil—the only reminder of her true self—and rub a drop on her wrist. The scent was a fleeting moment of peace. CREAK. Abhi’s warrior instincts flare up instantly. She grab a loose, black silk robe and throw it on, snatching the silver dagger hidden beneath her pillow. "Who’s there?" she growled, her voice dropping into that dangerous, husky tone she had practiced for years. She kick the balcony doors open. The curtains flying wildly with the wind, and there, sitting casually on the iron railing with a smirk that meant trouble, was Dev Malhotra. Dev—the son of their biggest rival family. The one man who had been shadowing her at college with a dark curiosity. "Nice room, Singh," Dev remarked, his voice smooth and cold as steel. "But tell me... why does the toughest guy in the city smell like fresh jasmine at 2 AM?" Abhi didn't waste words. She lunged, the silver tip of her dagger grazing Dev's throat. Dev didn't even flinch. He just stared into her eyes, his own eyes dark with curiosity and something else—something dangerous. "You’re trespassing, Dev. I could kill you right now and my father would give me a medal," Abhi hissed. Dev reached out, his fingers slowly brushing against the silk of her robe, dangerous close to her heart. "I followed the jasmine, Abhi. But I think I just found something much more intriguing. Why does the 'cold-blooded heir' have a heart that’s beating way too fast? Like... a girl in love with a secret." Abhi’s blood turned to ice. She pushed the knife harder. "Get. Out." "I’m leaving," Dev smiled, stepping back into the shadows of the night. "But secrets are like glass, Abhi. They are beautiful until they shatter. And I can’t wait to hear the sound when yours finally breaks." As Dev vanished, Abhi sank to the floor, her legs trembling. Her secret was no longer hers alone. The predator had found his prey, and the game had just become lethal.
