Chapter 4:Re-transformed back into human

993 Words
In the forest, a white shadow darted through the trees at lightning speed. "What... what has happened to me?!" Charlotte's heart was filled with terror. Her voice echoed in her mind but could only come out as a wolf's howl. Surrounding her were dense, impenetrable trees and the unknown darkness, each breath seemingly drawing in the rich scent of soil and the damp mist. She tried to stop, but her body seemed driven by some force to keep moving forward. "Why is this happening?!" Suddenly, a large gray wolf leaped from the shadows, attacking Charlotte directly. They clashed violently, the sound of their collision booming loudly in the otherwise silent forest. Charlotte fought back instinctively, "I don't want to hurt you!" Despite this, she maintained the last bit of her sanity amid the chaos. When the battle ended, the victor—the white wolf—stood in the moonlight. Its fur, shining with a silver glow, appeared even more mysterious under the moon. At dawn, Charlotte found herself exhausted and lying on the ground. As the first rays of sunlight pierced through the leaves and shone upon her, she was surprised to find she had reverted to her human form. "What... what is going on?" She was covered in dirt and sweat, her tattered clothes a testament to the extraordinary events of the night before. Dragging her weary body, Charlotte staggered home. The morning sunlight fell upon her, but it couldn't dispel the fear and confusion within her. "What happened last night?" she murmured, her mind replaying the fight with the gray wolf. "Could I have turned into a monster?" The thought made Charlotte shudder. She quickened her pace, eager to return home, the one place where she felt safe. Charlotte pushed open the door and stumbled into the living room, her body still trembling, her clothes stained with dirt and blood. "Charlotte! You're finally back! Where were you last night? I was worried sick!" James exclaimed, relieved to see her return safely. He hurried to her, wanting to embrace her. Charlotte instinctively stepped back, avoiding his hug. "Don't touch me!" Her voice was hoarse and low, tinged with a fear that was hard to miss. James froze, looking at her with worry and confusion. "Charlotte, what happened to you? What's wrong?" She didn't answer, keeping her head down, unable to meet his eyes. Her mind was flooded with images from the previous night: a massive wolf under the moonlight, sharp claws and teeth, and eyes filled with wildness and bloodlust. "I... I think I've become a monster..." Her voice trembled, on the verge of breaking down. James' heart sank. He knew something terrible must have happened to her. "Child, tell me slowly, what exactly happened?" His voice was gentle yet firm, trying to calm her. Charlotte took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. She began to recount the events of the previous night. She had transformed into a white wolf, run into the forest, and fought a gray wolf. Then, she lost consciousness. When she woke, she found herself in an unfamiliar forest, her hands covered in blood. "I... I don't remember what happened. I only remember... I seemed to turn into a monster..." Her voice grew quieter until it was almost a silent sob. James was silent. He knew she wasn't lying, as her eyes were filled with fear and confusion. "Child, listen to me. You're not a monster, you're just..." He wanted to comfort her but didn't know how. "I'm not your biological daughter, am I?" Charlotte suddenly lifted her head, her gaze piercing, her tone eerily calm. James was taken aback. He hadn't expected her to say that. "How... how do you know?" "Last night, some vague memories came to me... When I was little, we were chased by a pack of werewolves..." Fear flashed in her eyes but was quickly replaced by determination. "You are indeed not my biological daughter. There are things I've always wanted to tell you but feared you couldn't handle." "What... what things?" Her heart raced, a foreboding feeling rising within her. James took a deep breath, slowly beginning, "Thirteen years ago, your mother was gravely injured in a werewolf attack. Her body was covered in scars, and she knew she couldn't escape the werewolves with you." His voice choked, and he took a deep breath to steady himself. "She found me with her last ounce of strength and entrusted you to me." "My mother... who was she? And my father... who is he?" Her voice trembled, tears welling up. Her hands clenched into fists, her body shaking as she struggled to control her emotions. She desperately wanted to know her origins. "Child, I don't know," James shook his head, his eyes filled with guilt and helplessness. "All I know is that your mother was a very brave woman. She sacrificed her life to protect you." "I don't know who your father is either," he said, his voice heavy with the weight of each word. "That night, we were chased by werewolves. I thought we were doomed, but a mysterious person appeared and saved us, leaving a ring. I believe that ring holds the key to your identity. When you woke up, you had no memory of the past, so I brought you to this town to live in hiding." Saying this, James returned to his room and retrieved the ring he had hidden the night before. He placed the ring solemnly on Charlotte's finger. "This is the ring left by that mysterious person." "Remember, no matter your origin, you are my daughter, and I will always love you." Charlotte looked at James, tears brimming in her eyes. She knew her journey was just beginning, and ahead lay a path full of thorns and challenges. But she was not afraid. She knew she was not alone. She had James and the mysterious ring... She would face everything bravely and seek her own truth.
