“Is this true?” I turned to the voice and watched Leander jump down a window sill. “Tell me this isn’t true.”
I averted his gaze. The water in the bucket sloshed as I pulled out an old piece of fabric to clean Ma’s headstone. “What do you mean?”
“Father summoned me. He had some great news.”
“What’s the news?”
Angrily, Leander slapped the rag out of my hands. “Is that why you returned home? To finally become king?”
I bent to pick up the cloth and ignored his glare. “I’m just doing what I have to.”
