The fire crackled gently away as I studied the young girl on the log opposite of me. I had to give it to Aspen, only he could find a woman in the middle of nowhere. And not just any woman.
I noticed the glint in his eye and the spring in his step as he joked and kidded around. It was an expression I hadn’t seen on his face for a long time and it was a joy to watch him.
Something about this young girl, Akira, seemed to chase away the darkness that always lingered around him. I wasn’t too sure what it was, I had no real idea how their wolves worked. But I knew Danny and I saw the way she looked at Regan. How she looked at Darren even, although it didn’t seem like she noticed how springy she was around him. Like a little lovesick puppy.
