At the start, Kade was only playing along. In the same way he wanted to tell Arden everything he wanted to hear, he also wanted to give him everything he was asking for.
But he hadn’t forgotten about what Hayley said about him. Arden said his friend must have lied, and while there was a chance that that was true, Kade couldn’t think of a reason for why Hayley would do that.
Besides, he remembered what happened that night. In those moments, he had been too focused on himself and on what he was going through to notice much of anything else, but now that he was looking back, he managed to recall that Hayley had indeed remained completely fine all throughout. The woman had even driven him to his sister’s place without any problems.
