When he got to the office, Kade hesitated for a moment before knocking on his sister’s door. But he rallied himself thereafter and didn’t wait for an answer before trying the handle. The door opened just fine as usual and he pushed it farther back to peek in. He saw Addie propping both elbows on her desk, holding her bowed head in her hands. Kade immediately entered and asked in worry, “You okay, sis? What’s the matter?” Though she’d heard the knocking and the door opening, Addie had never once looked up.
