When Kade stood from his chair, it took everything he had to appear nonchalant about it, not letting any of what he was feeling rise to the surface.
The move naturally drew everyone’s attention to him, but all they saw on his face was a grin full of mischief.
“Gotta go take a dump,” he went on, much to his family’s dismay—particularly his sister’s.
“Do you have to be so disgusting?” Addie said, losing the sweetness in a snap like it was never there. “I’m about to eat here!”
“Heh,” was all Kade replied as he showed his back to everyone and walked casually back into the cottage.
This time, his parents did share a brief and subtle look, one which Arden managed to catch from the corner of his eye as he stared after Kade’s retreating figure.
