CHAPTER 5: LUNA'S TURMOIL

Luna sat on her bed , her mind reeling. Henry family were werewolf hunters - the same people who killed her parents.

Her thoughts swirled with questions.

"How could Henry be so kind , yet come from a family of monsters?" ," Does Henry know what his family did?" ,

"What does aunt Lydia plan to do now that we're back in Bingham?"

Luna's gaze fell upon the old , worn-out photo on her nightstand - a picture of her parents taken before the hunt . Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as memories flooded back .

"What would you want me to do , mom? Dad? " Luna whispered .

Luna descended the stairs, her heart heavy with conflicting emotions . she found aunt Lydia in the kitchen sipping tea . "Luna dear , what's wrong ? " Aunt Lydia asked sensing her distress .

Luna hesitated, unsure how to articulate her turmoil. "it's Henry ......his family....... they're the ones who killed mom and dad , aren't they?" . Aunt Lydia expression turned somber ."Yes , child his family killed your parents"

Luna's voice cracked . "But Henry..... he's so kind , so gentle. How can he come from people who could do horrific things ?" Aunt Lydia's eyes filled with empathy." Luna , the world is complex , people are multifaceted, Henry may not be like his family but he is one of them ."

Luna struggled to reconcile her feelings. "But how can I trust him now ?, his family destroyed ours." Aunt Lydia's voice took on a determined tone . " we'll us this to our advantage, get close to Henry, learn more about his family operations, we'll avenge your parents Luna " Luna felt a pang of unease , was she ready for this .

Later that night , Luna stood before her bed room window, gazing at the moon.

"Who am I ?" she wondered " a werewolf seeking revenge or a teenager wanting normalcy?" her thoughts swirled:

" What if I'm just like aunt Lydia - consumed by hatred?"

" what if Henry's kindness is genuine, and I'm using him?"

Luna's reflection stared back, her eyes searching for answers " I want to be me , not a tool for revenge" , she whispered

As the moon cast it's silvery glow , Luna realized her true struggle: "Can I forge my own path or will my legacy define me ?" .

At school, Luna made conscious effort to distance herself from Henry . she avoided eye contact, skipped lunch with him and sat apart in class . Henry noticed the change immediately " Hey , Luna , what's wrong?" "You didn't text me back after Friday, you didn't reply my texts either " Henry asked during math class , his brow furrowed with concern. Luna shrugged, focusing on her notes ." Nothing's wrong just been too stressed about exams that's all " Henry's eyes lingered , sensing something deeper, in the hallways, Henry tried to catch Luna's attention but she hastily walked away.

Henry's unease grew , he couldn't shake the feeling that something happened or something's wrong .

Aunt Lydia received an unexpected visit from Lucas, Luna's uncle on her mother's side , His rugged demeanor and piercing Blue eyes commanded attention. "Lucas , what brings you here?" aunt Lydia asked her tone cautious.

Lucas's gaze swept the room . " I heard you came back to Bingham. I wonder why " . Aunt Lydia's expression turned guarded. " Luna's grown , and it's time she knew her heritage." Lucas's eyes narrowed." and the hunters?" , aunt Lydia's voice dropped a whisper, " we'll deal with them ."

Luna trudged through the the front door, exhausted from avoiding Henry all day . Her heart ached, conflicted between her feelings and the weight of her family's legacy. She dropped her backpack , tears welling up , " why did I have to fall for a hunter ?" she whispered.

In the kitchen, Luna grabbed a glass of water, hoping to calm her racing thoughts that's when she overheard Aunt Lydia and uncle Lucas said " ..... full moon approaches, and she's still unprepared," uncle Lucas said . Aunt Lydia's voice was laced with concern. " I know Lucas , but she's strong, she'll learn ." " ...... among humans, it's perilous, one slip , and they'll destroy her , and you know this is her first full moon transformation." Uncle Lucas warned .

Luna's heart skipped a beat .

Aunt Lydia's words sent shivers down Luna's spine " I know all that but it's time she claimed her birthright - alpha of our pack , and avenge the death of her parents." Luna felt the weight of responsibility crushing her . she quietly retreated to her room , overwhelmed her thoughts swirled:

" What if I fail"

"what if Henry discovers my secret?"

"what if I hurt someone" .

Luna's anxiety escalated, her world spinning out of control.
