“Drake!” I scream into the storm to draw a response from him. Halo begins to thrash around, his head smacking my arm wildly. I snap toward him, watching as he begins to convulse. “No, no,” I stagger to my feet, darting across the yard for anybody. My vision is blurred by the water that cascades into my eyes. “Stay with me, Halo, please,” I whisper as I tear into the rain, cutting into the slippery forest. My chest constricts with each step I take, a sharp pain tugging my lower abdomen. Suddenly, Halo becomes still in my arms. I pause, slamming my back against a tree, taking shelter under its loose leaves. “Halo, wake up, wake up for mommy,” I shake him, but his head lolls. My breathing becomes erratic, I pull him closer and dash across the forest. Halo, don’t do this to mommy, please,
