ELENA “Tomorrow is the day,” I whisper to my calendar, the marker in hand as I strike another day off. I will give him the new papers and leave him for good. The plan is sturdy in my mind but my heart doesn’t seem to pump to the idea of leaving, abandoning my responsibilities. It's one day before the mating ceremony and it feels like I have to walk around in eggshells when I go to the mansion because of Drake. We haven't spoken since that disastrous conversation in his office. When we accidentally cross paths in the mansion, the tension that swells in the room is so thick that a knife could slice through it.
