ELENA “Liam!” Rosa calls out, leaning on the hood of her car. Her arms are crossed, and a shadow is cast along her face. My headlight spills, combating the darkness and illuminating part of her face. “Goodnight, Halo. Have a nice evening,” Liam waves at me before running off to meet his mother. My stomach curls with anger, my steam boiling as I lock eyes with Rosa. She’s pretending like she hasn’t seen me. She pretends like she doesn’t know what she has done. I clench my fist, stifling the urge to walk over to her and put her in her place. “Let’s go, Halo.” I pull Halo toward the car. He waves at Rosa and she just glares, watching as her son comes up to her. He throws himself at her, but she grabs his arm rudely and crouches. She jabs a finger in his face, her mouth moving rapidly. H
