When Humans Are No Longer Clueless

Victor's POV I really hate when Bela asks me to do this stuff. The suits are tight and even though I am no stranger to women, the way they look at us makes me uncomfortable. Bela has never had issues with them. The only one he ever wanted left almost 2 years ago and for all we knew she was dead. Beta Larry was found dead in the woods a couple of years back. All hope of finding her had died when he was discovered. The new Alpha of the pack was furious and took it out on a lot of the pack members. Only his inner circle, Bela and I were spared. Things got better when he found his mate and Luna among the rogues that attacked that night. But only for a short time. I hated dwelling on the past. It always hurts so much to think about. What else can I do while standing by a dressing room door? I watch the different people walk by. Mostly back-up dancers and back-up singers. Like always, I see them looking me up and down. Undressing me with their eyes. Even the guys. This gig needs to get over fast. I may bake all night just to get this out of my system. I'll make her favorite treat, cinnamon rolls. Then not eat any, because it hurts more to enjoy them while knowing she is dead and can't enjoy them herself. Why did the Alpha have to kill her? She was my mate, and she just wanted to stay faithful to me. Bela comes up from checking the perimeter. "How are things?" "Same as always on these things." "Vic, I know this is hard. Val was a singer, and you hate being around it. I wish I could have spared her, but you know how he got towards the end. Even you and I weren't safe from his wrath if he didn't get what he wanted." He just grabs my shoulder and gives me one of his looks. I shake my head and then turn as I hear the door open. The young star walks out. Sha is pretty but not like my Valerie. "You guys ready for an amazing night?" she asks us walking towards the stage. "Here we go," Bela said. The music wasn't bad. Just a little too popp-ie for me. I mostly ignored it keeping my eyes focused on possible threats. The evening went as they always do. First set and a short break, then the second set and her goodbyes. I thought we would have no action and I could just go home a sulk. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I say light flash off the metal. I instantly put myself in front of the young pop star. Bela saw my movement and started looking around. Putting himself next to me, so there was a wall. "Move now," he shouted at the girl. She ran to her dressing room with us following, walking backwards; our eyes looking everywhere. The light hit the metal again and a young man stepped from the shadows. "Do you really think you can keep her safe from me?" he snired, "I don't see guns on you guys." He raised his gun and pointed it at us. Bela reacted instantly, and the guy was off his feet, hanging in midair, the gun lying on the ground. It had happened so fast the gun hadn't even gone off. Humans will never learn. The local police arrive and take the man into custody. From the door of the dressing room we see her looking out. Her eyes were wide and she looked scared. We had to find out just how much she saw. Walking towards the door Bela was just able to catch it before she got it slammed. "Don't be afraid. We won't hurt you. We were sent to protect you, remember?" he said, trying to reassure her. "What are you guys on? Staroids? Drugs? No one moves that fast." Her voice came out shaking. "We're just good at your job, mam," Bela replied. "I don't believe you. Tell me what you are on. I want your employer to know so he can fire you for it." Anger in her eyes now. "We aren't on anything," I said, trying to keep my voice calm. "You have to be, because anything else will sound crazy," she insisted. "Sometimes te crazy answer is the answer that you need to trust," Bela said, taking a step closer. "Are you even human?" her voice came out as almost a whisper, "I've seen things in all of my travels for my tours. Things I can't explain, and I knew if I tried they would lock me away." Bela and I looked at each other. Could she know? If she did, was she trustworthy? Bela nodded and we turned to look at her. Even without our pack link, the mind link severed when the Alpha died, we still knew what the other was thinking with just our eyes. "What have you seen?" I asked, "no matter what it is, we won't think you are crazy." She spent the next hour telling us all the times she saw wolves in areas that had no wolves as part of the animal population. What's more, she would see a wolf out of the corner of her eye, but when she looked in the direction a person stood there. It wasn't possible. There had been other security men and they were strong and fast like us. One time she could have sworn one of them had glowing eyes. We took it all in and occasionally would share looks. It seems as though some of our kind are not trying to stay hidden in the human world. "Okay," Bela said, kneeing in front of her, "You are not crazy. Your eyes were not playing tricks on you. Why it didn't make sense was because you only have the lies Hollywood tells you. If you are willing to keep an open mind and are willing to keep the secret, we can explain the truth. You already know too much as it is. To try and convince you otherwise would do you harm." She looked between us both, then shook her head. We explain what was true and what Hollywood got wrong about us. She listened with wide eyes. At the end of our tail we gave her some time to process what she had just learned. "It makes sense, I knew I wasn't crazy. I'm just glad I have all the information. Will they try and kill me for knowing?" she asked. "As long as you don't let on that, you know you will be fine. Tell no one else. You can't trust all of us," I said, taking her hand. "Thank you for everything," she replied. "Now, who was that guy?" I asked. "A crazy ex. That's all you need to know," she explained. We left the room when her manager finally showed up. "Honestly, I don't think 70% is enough," Bela said, rubbing his neck, "we definitely need to get out of town once that girl's brother gets here." The drive home was silent, and I replayed the evening events over again in my head. Did we really just gain an ally? As we turned on our street we saw the cop cars parked out in front of our house. A body bag is lying on the front lawn. And there is a man face down in handcuffs. Another man is talking to the officers. He appears distraught and his face is tear streaked. We pull up and guns ar pointed at our car. "Officers we live here," Bela said, keeping his hand on the searing wheel. "Get out of the car!" an officer says.
