“Oh… how long have you been standing there?” Sabrina asked, turning suddenly toward me.
“Uh..” I cleared my throat, forcing my voice to sound casual. “Just now.”
It was a lie.
I’d been standing there for almost a full minute, frozen in place, listening.
Long enough to hear her say that name.
Rain.
“Okay,” she said slowly, studying my face like she wasn’t fully convinced. “Did you want something?”
“Yeah,” I replied quickly, pointing my thumb over my shoulder toward the others. “I just wanted to ask what kind of snack you want. We’re sharing everything.”
“Cool. I’m fine with anything.” She smiled and stepped closer, slipping her arm through mine like we've been doing this for the longest. “Let’s go.”
