Chapter 20: Missing Dylan

1035 Words
Scarlett walked straight into the Carters' mansion unimpededly. She wanted to go upstairs but stopped when she bumped into a housemaid in the living room. Scarlett hated talking to anyone in the luxurious house but Dylan. But she was already irritated before arriving, so she rolled her eyes and asked, "Where's Dylan?" Dropping her greeting to Dylan's girlfriend, the housemaid replied, "I'm sorry, but I haven't seen him, Miss Scarlett. He hasn't been home for a few days now." The response made Scarlett even more irritated. Raising her arched eyebrow, she ridiculed, "Are you nuts? He's not in his apartment. Where else will he go if not here? Screw you!" She crossed her arms and stared sharply at the head housekeeper, waiting to hear the truth. Keeping her respect for Dylan's girlfriend, Mila held the vacuum cleaner tighter. "I'm not lying, Miss Scarlett," she said and politely suggested, "If you don't believe me, Miss, you may ask Ma'am Lorene." Irritation did not leave Scarlett's face. The suggestion was the worst one Scarlett had ever heard. She could not get along with Dylan's mother as they disliked each other. But Scarlett had been yearning for her boyfriend. She groaned to admit that the maid's suggestion could not be so bad as Scarlett thought. She rolled her eyes and sharply said, "Fine. Where is she?" "She's upstairs, Miss Scarlett," Mila replied. "Wait here for a moment. I'll call Ma'am Lorene," she instructed politely and left after motioning Scarlett to sit on the tufted couch. Scarlett's sharp gaze followed the maid, who hurried upstairs. Hissing, Scarlett sunk onto a couch as she waited. She could not help but murmur in frustration. "I'll have to face that b***h again. I would have pulled her hair back then if it weren't for Dylan." Now she would have to hold herself back again. It was stupid to please her future mother-in-law, or at the very least, not get caught by her boyfriend pretending to show some respect. But she was willing to endure getting Dylan to marry her. She rolled her eyes again. Anticipating that she would be living with Dylan in the mansion in no time, Scarlett wandered her gaze around the living room. She felt uncomfortable sitting, so she stood up and examined the collections before her to ease her boredom. It wasn't long before she heard the voice she was expecting. "Dylan is not here, and I don't know where he is," Lorene said as soon as she stood near Scarlett. Rolling her eyes was inevitable for Scarlett as it indicated having to pretend. She turned around only to find Laurene's poker face. "I need to talk to him. I have something important to tell him. Please," Scarlett said in a pleading tone. She was smart enough not to buy Laurene's lie. But Laurene stared at Scarlett as though the latter simpler terms to understand what the former had just said. "Didn't you understand, Dear? Dylan is not here," Laurene repeated. Contempt could be hinted at in her tone now. "Don't even assume I'd tell you if I knew," she added and shook her head mercilessly. As if Laurene had dropped a bomb, Scarlett wasted no more time asking for pity. She scoffed, "So, you admit. You're hiding Dylan from me. I wouldn't be surprised if I'd find out that you also told him to stay away from me." Without breaking glares with Laurene, abomination filled Scarlett's heart. The evidence that her boyfriend's mother was a threat to her plan to be his wife had already come out of Laurene's mouth. Laurene could not help but let out a snicker. "You're hilarious, Scarlett," she remarked sarcastically and sat on the couch with her legs crossed in front of Scarlett as if to remind the young woman of her place. Bu Scarlett certainly did not care. She had enough of Dylan's mother, so she yelled, "You b***h!" Laurene did not seem to be surprised. "Watch your words, Miss Evans. I can drag you out of my house anytime now," she cautioned while squinting. "Go on," Scarlett retorted. "Ha! You think I'm afraid of you. You should be the one to get scared, b***h!" she sneered upon noticing that Laurene about to show the b***h in her. 'You're underestimating who you're messing with,' Scarlett thought. "Your son will get mad if he finds out you're treating me like that," Scarlett continued and raised her chin. "I'll let him know and tell him his mother hit me," she threatened. But Laurene did not flinch. Dylan's mother even let out a sarcastic laugh. "Go on," Laurene mimicked. "I can accompany you when you tell him whatever story you can make. Let's see what he'll think of you," she said casually and busied herself flipping the magazine on the coffee table. Scarlett pressed her lips. What could she expect? Laurene had always been a pain in the ass. As she stood there, Scarlett tilted her head at a sudden realization. 'Accompany me? There she said it! She knows where Dylan is! What a b***h!' she believed. "You liar! You're hiding Dylan from me!" Scarlett yelled. Seeing Laurene only c****d an eye, Scarlett raised her voice even more. "Show him to me now if you want no trouble! Hurry up! I'm running out of patience!" Laurene closed the magazine and put it back on the table. "Emily!" she shouted. The young maid ran to the living room and asked what Laurene needed. Laurene whispered something to which the maid nodded before leaving. Turning to Scarlett, Laurene said, "My son hasn't told you yet, has he?" A furrow appeared on Scarlett's forehead. Laurene continued, "He's not interested in you anymore, Miss Evans. I bet you came here because you know it. Now do yourself a favor. Get the hell out of here. I can't stand seeing your shameless face." Scarlette walked around Laurene and said, "You seem to know a lot about your son. Did you know we made love last week?" Scarlett stopped behind Laurene with a smirk before whispering, "Now, you tell me. If your son fell out of love with me, he wouldn't have released his semen inside of me, would he?"
