Chapter 21: Dare

1066 Words
Hearing only silence from Laurene, Scarlett knew that what she said shocked her future mother-in-law. She stood up and walked back in front of Laurene. "I warned you last time we talked. I'll repeat it." A malicious smile formed on her lips. "You should treat me well. Try to get along with me because Dylan and I will marry one day. Don't waste your time trying to meddle. You'll never win against me, Mother-in-law." Laurene stood. Pointing to the doorway, she yelled, "Get out!" Pouting, Scarlett replied, "What did I tell you? Don't shout at me, Laurene. You said my future husband isn't here, so I'll get going now." She was about to kiss Laurene on the cheek before leaving, but Laurene moved her face away. "Are you scared of me?" Scarlett laughed. Her face went serious when she demanded, "Tell your son to see me. Remind him of what I did with the women he flirted with back then. I can easily find the woman he sees these days." "Don't you dare do anything, you nuts!" Lorene warned back. The terror in Lorene's eyes satisfied Scarlett. "Try me, Lorene," Scarlett dared. She was about to leave when she remembered, "And oh, by the way, no need to call the guards to escort me out. I can manage. Besides, I'll be living here soon. I should take the time to be familiar with the mansion now, right?" She winked and continued to head out. Just then, Emily went back with two guards. One of the guards attempted to hold Scarlett's arm. Scarlett abruptly avoided the guard's hand and jeered, "How dare you attempt to lay your filthy hands on me?" Bowing his head, the poor guard apologized, "I'm sorry, Miss Evans. I was only doing my job." Scarlett clicked her tongue in disappointment at Laurene. "I can make my way out without your help. Go inside. Tell your boss to go to hell," she ordered. She then went to the car parked in front of the mansion. When she opened the door to her car, the expression in her eyes suddenly went soft. She turned to look at Dylan's empty room from the gate and began to doubt, 'You told me you love me, but why are you avoiding me, Dylan? Is it true that you're not interested in me anymore?' Bitterness crept inside her as she recognized the feeling of abandonment. In the eyes of a lot of people, she often looked shameless. But what appeared that way was, for her, called fearlessness. However, it was not an exemption for her to feel fragile at the same time when it came to the man she loved. Thinking about how Dylan made her feel that way, she sighed and raced her car to a bar. When Scarlett arrived, the guards recognized her and immediately opened the door for her. She went straight to the counter and ordered a shot of vodka without waiting for the bartender to ask. The bartender was yet to place the shot glass of hard liquor on the table. But Scarlett snatched it to the bartender and gulped it straight. It left a burning sensation in her throat. But she was too occupied with her thoughts about Dylan, so she ordered another shot. She needed to numb the pain of thinking about her unstable relationship with Dylan. She was confident in committing to him and doing everything to keep him, but she hated that he was distancing himself from her. She consumed a few more shots of vodka when a man stood beside her. She knew men of this type, but she only glanced at him and smiled faintly before gulping another shot. The alcohol in her bloodstream began to make her feel drowsy. But still feeling the pain pulsating in her chest, she continued to get herself drunk. "Hi...," the man greeted, unsure of talking to her. "I, uh,... I can sense that you're a bit stressed. Mind if I join you?" Shaking her head, Scarlett replied, "Not at all." A taste of bitterness lingered on her tongue when she spoke. Hard liquors and being in low spirits were probably the worst traitors ever. Her blurry vision mistook Dylan for the man beside her. Her yearning hands instantly cradled the man's face tenderly in her arms and pressed her warm lips to his. "Oh...," she moaned. "I missed you so much," she mumbled between her kisses. The man did not kiss her back at first. But she was Scarlett Evans, who always ensured she got what she wanted. She hungrily pushed her hot and moist lips to the man's and slipped her tongue in his until he finally returned her kisses. The bar was distracting, so Scarlett parted from him for a while. Impatient to leave, she immediately took some bills out of her wallet. Without counting them, she casually placed them on the counter. "Keep the change," she uttered and was about to stand when she lost her balance. Fortunately, the man that looked like Dylan abruptly caught her and helped her stand straight. Scarlett smirked. Her fingers brushed the man's lips and wandered down to his chest as she whispered, "Thanks, Handsome. Come with me. It's suffocating here." The man could not help but instantly grab Scarlett by the waist. He pressed his body tightly against her and mashed his lips against hers before letting go of her. Everything around them was spinning as he guided her out of the bar. When he put her in his car, Scarlett leaned her body on the seat and rested her dizzy head. After a while, he suddenly grabbed her and claimed her lips again. She was too drunk and lonely tonight to stop him. Shortly after, Scarlett felt the man's hands traveling softly over her body underneath her dress. She could not help but close her eyes when it stopped between her legs as he took off her wet underwear and chucked it out. His playful finger repeatedly entered inside and outside of her, making her moan at the scorching sensation. Not too long after, she found herself seated on his bare lap. The burning heat in her body made Scarlett succumb to the man's passionate touch and kisses in the depth of night. It led to them having intercourse once inside his car and several more times in his apartment.
