Fresh Start

Safire          Saf of course turned right, not left. She was speeding and already a good fifteen minutes from the coven. Judging by the height and smells and trees and animals Saf guessed she was in Vermont, a sign soon confirmed her suspicions. She quickly decided she couldn’t go back to New York so she was driving southeast to Boston. It was a city but less crowded but crowded enough for her to blend in. It was also close enough to Vermont that they wouldn't assume she would stop so close.           It was only the late afternoon and it was crazy how she was just leaving her house less than seven hours ago. Saf drove in quiet not wanting to play music because she was lost in thought. She finally allowed herself to think about Nathan. She thought about his curly dark hair that fell onto his forehead, his sharp jawline that had a light five o'clock shadow. His warm brown eyes that reminded her of the chocolate she used to love eating before her transition. When she was placed in his arms she felt the mate bond right away. And when she breathed in his scent and smelled sage, spearmint, and sandalwood she knew he was hers. But in that same moment when she realized this man was all hers, she also reminded herself that she swore off vampires. No matter what.           Saf speed for an hour and finally got to Massachusetts. After another half hour of being pulled over and persuading her way out of it, she got to Boston. It was five and everyone was rushing home. She parked in front of a restaurant and walked into the small deli. She sat down in a booth towards the back of the deli.          “What can I get ya,” a young woman asked from behind the counter. The older lady chewed gum and c****d her hip as she waited for Safire's reply.           “Do you bleed meat here?” Saf asked, receiving a questioning look from the lady.           “Yes, we bleed out most of our meats here,” she answered slowly.          “Give me all the blood you bleed, then forget I was ever here,” Saf ordered using her persuasion. The lady brought the blood and Saf took it and put it in a paper cup, stuck a cover on top, and grabbed a white straw. “Thanks.”          Saf left the deli and looked back to see the lady glancing confusedly at the bleeding pan in her hands. Saf sighed and hopped into Nathan’s car. She felt bad about using him and leaving him behind, there were doubts floating through her mind. She knew she hated vampires but he was kind and obviously a vegetarian like her. Not only that but they were changed in the same ritual and they were mates, she should have brought him, but she didn't want to feel like she was the betraying the family she lost.          Safire tried to push the doubt to the back of her mind and focus on the task at hand. She needed to find a new place to live, and preferably somewhere that was nondiscreet. Saf drove to a real estate shop and entered.         "Hello there, how can I help you?" a middle aged lady with a name tag that read Fran asked in a friendly manner.          “Hi, are there any apartments for sale?” Safire asked, getting straight to the point.           “Of course, please sit down,” Saf sat down and Fran continued, “Where would your most desired part of the city be?”          “Anywhere near a deli,” Saf answered.          Fran smiled, "A fan of deli?" and stared typing away on her computer. Saf smiled and laughed nodding her head. It was true... to an extent. “Okay, how about this apartment?” Fran showed Saf a small apartment right down the street from a deli. It was small but hidden because it was on top of a shop. She usually liked having bigger apartments but this would be perfect for the time being while she hid and comes up with some plans.           “Great!” Saf said and then made direct eye contact with Fran, “Now take the apartment off your list, forget about it. It was sold to a nice couple. Never check in and if the past owners ask where the money is ask them to go to the apartment. Now forget I was ever here.”           Saf quickly and quietly exited the building and walked to the apartment she just "bought". It was on top of an old jewelry store which was an old brick building. Saf climbed the stairs and easily broke the lock to get in. She decided she would get it fixed but for now, it was fine.          The apartment was empty and that was okay with Saf. She loved decorating and decided that she would hit up the nearest furniture store once she knows she wasn't being tracked. She just needed a fridge, table, chair, couch and TV and a bookcase filled with books. She sat down on the floor and leaned against the wall. The thoughts she was pushing aside started to flutter into her mind. She closed her eyes and pictured Nathtan's face. His eyes were staring at her lips and she hoped he leaned in to kiss her. Her core started to feel a bit warm just as there was a knock on the door.  Safire tensed. She paused and took a deep breath, by the scent and the heartbeat she knew it was a human. “Hello,” Saf said as she opened her door. There was a beautiful young man standing there with the broken lock in his hand.           “Hey, I came to welcome you and found this…” he trailed off as he stared at Saf. She knew her effect on human boys so she just smiled and waited for him to continue. “I think someone broke in before you came, and I wanted to apologize since my father is the one who owns this building. We live in the apartment above you.”           “Thanks for your concern, I need to get it fixed, and nice to meet you,” Saf smiled. The boy must have been at least twenty-one and had light brown hair with soft blue eyes. He smiled back. Safire could tell that this boy could offer a very welcomed distraction. See, Safire was a vampire which means she did have a high s*x drive. She swore off vampires but she did not swear off flings with humans. It gave her the pleasure of living like a human, which she missed desperately, as well as the pleasure of s*x. She leaned against the door frame and let her hair fall over her shoulder which drew attention to her chest which was quite full and distracting. Safire saw his gaze lingering on her chest and when he saw her staring he cleared his throat and blushed slightly. Safire found it adorable.           “I can call in a Locksmith if you want,” he offered still blushing.          “That would be great,” Saf answered, “What’s your name?”          “Leo, and yours?” He asked back.           “Safire, call me Saf though,” she really liked this human. He was kind and beautiful and would be a great person to help her pass some time with.           “K, Saf, I will be back tomorrow with a locksmith,” he smiled and left. Saf grinned to herself and went into her apartment. To her surprise a very angry Nathan was in her living room. His brown eyes were filled with anger, jealousy, and hurt. He must of heard her talking with Leo and he must have felt the s****l attraction Saf had towards Leo.             Safire walked towards him and grinned, “Damn, I forgot to tell you to forget about me,” she said and sat down on the floor and leaned against the wall.          “Guess you did,” he said with a glare.
