Chapter twenty-four

1033 Words
Moha and Fa'Bintou turned to stare in surprise at the woman who had just made her entrance, unlike Ndeye, who felt a certain maliciousness emanating from her as well as being surprised like everyone else. She was nevertheless about to greet her, having joined her and welcomed her, refusing to judge her based impressions despite her initial inappropriate gestures towards her, when Fa'Bintou, who had stepped forward without her realizing it, anticipated her by speaking up to greet her with a certain contempt and clear irony in her voice. _ Hello Ma'Khady, how nice to see you again after such a long time! So her name is Ma'Khady! _ Pleasure shared. _ Moha darling! (Passing Ndeye again without paying attention to her). And she has the nerve to treat her like a common animal or piece of furniture! _ I missed you! (Throwing herself into his arms) Not to mention that she has eyes for her man! Her man? She doesn't... She was interrupted in her thoughts by Ma'Khady trying to kiss Moha who turned his head in time to miss her target and come up behind her and hug her tenderly. _ Wait, are you pushing me away for this maid who seems to be an omega? _ She is neither a maid nor an omega. She is Ndeye, a human, and she is my soul mate, the Supreme Luna. So you owe her respect. _ What? She, your soul mate? What about me? _ You always knew what you were to me, a friend and sister. You could never be more than that to me. I hope you will finally understand. He left under the eyes of a moved Ndeye, Fa'Bintou extremely happy to see Ma'Khady finally put in her place, and Ma'Khady bubbling with rage. On the other hand, far from admitting defeat, she took advantage of the fact that Fa'Bintou was also in the living room to approach Ndeye and with pressure on her neck made her bend over and spit out her words. _ Moha has always been mine. I will not let anyone take him away from me, soul mate or not. So hold him as tightly as you can because if you don't, you'll see him slip through your fingers pretty quickly. But come to think of it, sooner or later he will be mine whether you like it or not. So make yourself comfortable and watch me take back what is mine, you wretch. She then let go of Ndeye, dropping her to walk away before she burst into tears, afraid of losing Moha, whom she had grown so attached to over the years that she feared she had fallen in love with him, but also convinced that she was no match for such a bold and beautiful young woman. She was, after all, a poor orphan who had nothing to offer her but her heavy and horrible past, not even the most precious gift a woman could give her mate, which this rival seemed willing to give her on a golden platter. What fate awaited her? Ndeye was still pondering this question when in the early evening Ma'Khady returned to see them. This time, Moha and Fa'Bintou's parents were present and, having always considered Ma'Khady as their daughter, Bassiratou invited her to come and live with them for the duration of her stay in the country, under the eyes of Ndeye, who held back tears and allowed Ma'Khady the pleasure of savoring her victory over her before she had even begun. As if that wasn't enough, at dinner time she sat in her place pretending to ignore her, but fortunately, Moha swapped places with Fa'Bintou so that he could sit next to her, which reassured her even though she knew that this was only a warning from Ma'Khady, who was already getting her bearings. Preoccupied, she was not talkative at the table that evening, which did not go unnoticed by Fa'Bintou and Moha, whose concern she aroused. She even left the table very early to take refuge on the terrace to think again and again for the rest of the evening. Tired of asking herself questions to which she could not find answers, Ndeye got up to go to bed when she realized how late it was, but when she returned to her room, she saw Moha standing alone in the garden wearing a short-sleeved shirt despite the cold. Fearing that he might catch a cold, she went to her room to get a jacket, intending to give it to him and to continue the discussion from earlier in the day, interrupted by Ma'Khady. Only, as she was a few steps away from him, Ma'Khady came out of nowhere and took off her jacket, revealing the sexy top she was wearing, to come and embrace him from behind. Only a few hours since her threat and she was already in action, right before his eyes, as promised! Goddess, what was going to happen to her at this rate? How many days, weeks, or months separated her from a probable departure to the unknown? At this thought, Ndeye threw the jacket on the floor before running, under Ma'Khady's sidelong glance, to her room where she let her tears flow freely, convinced that her relationship with Moha that had not even begun was coming to an end. What had she done to deserve this? Hadn't she suffered enough? Or did she have to endure more? Little did she know that Ma'Khady had clung to Moha, aware of her presence, and she had left just seconds before he had discarded her, Aras in control. He had immediately taken off the jacket that he couldn't stand before he saw his on the floor. He understood at once that she was there and had surely seen him with Ma'Khady, a scene that she must have misinterpreted. He wanted to go and find her to explain but finally gave up, fearing that this would only make things worse. Clutching his jacket, he sat down at Ndeye's favorite baobab tree, looking up at the sky with only one question in mind. What could the future hold for them at this rate?
