Chapter 8

2456 Words
Casey Romanov’s head feels as if he had endured one of Dianna and Kenna’s favorite rock concerts, a never ending array of screaming being mistaken for singing and girls attempting to resemble raccoons screeching the lyrics with the band. The feeling of ice cold water splashing against his face jolts the pain in his head as he suddenly wakes up, his body jumping up from the spot he collapsed in last night, and the laughs of his co-workers is only causing the pain in his head to intensify. Placing his hands on both sides of his temples, he regrettably opens his eyes, the beaming of the dimly illuminated lights of the station feeling as if the sun itself is against his irises. He can still hear everybody in the station laughing at him, finding his hangover and drunken mishaps of the night before so humorous. Casey believes all of them would be in a worse state if they endured what he did the night before. Vampires, royals, Dianna getting kidnapped, fangs….. “You still drunk, boy?!” Captain Rupert’s laugh is far too obnoxious to handle this early in the morning, and when the captain smacks Casey against his back, he winces. “Be happy, boy, the disastrous trio aren’t here today.” “What?” The hangover, for only a moment, subsides as Casey looks up at his Captain, unnerved by the large grin on his face. “They are always here at five sharp.” “Not today, boy, be happy!” Once again, the captain slaps Casey’s back, and he winces once more. “That isn’t like them, Captain.” Once again, Captain Rupert obnoxiously laughs. “Hopefully, they disappeared wherever your b***h went, less of a problem for us. Am I right, boy?” For a moment, Casey’s vision goes black. The next thing he knew, he has Captain Rupert slammed against the wall with one hand tight around his neck and the other rose into a fist. Verbally growling at his boss, he slams his fist into the wall beside the captain’s head, watching the older man flinch away from him. The entire station is unimaginably quiet, not even the sound of someone taking a bite out of a doughnut being heard, with Casey’s hard breathing the loudest thing. “She isn’t a b***h,” Casey growls the words, the mental image of Dianna’s face only fueling his anger. “Say it!!” Captain Rupert is obviously tries to hide his immense fear with a laugh. “Boy, relax, sometimes we make the mistake of falling for the town’s w***e….” Casey doesn’t let him finish his sentence. With one fluid punch, Captain Rupert collapses onto the ground unconscious, his nose pooling with blood. Casey looks over at Officer Kincaid, the already drunk cop staring at him with slight fear, but the furious man only points to his former boss. “I think he has a broken nose.” Ripping a napkin off of Kincaid’s desk, he wipes his bloodied fist and looks over at the man with a spiked coffee in one hand and a doughnut in the other. “And start searching for those three girls, or so help me God…” “I will!” Grimacing slightly, Casey grabs everything essential from his desk, sticks it in his backpack, and storms out of the station with the only thing still remaining on his former desk being his badge. Fishing out Dianna’s phone from Casey’s pocket, he turns it on to see the lock screen a picture of her and her three friends, all four of them missing with only one person with answers as to where they might be. The stranger took the lock code off of Dianna’s phone, and when Casey goes to the contacts page, only one name is left on the phone: Kamren. He is quick to press the call button, his entire body shaking as he begins walking towards his apartment complex. Kamren, the mysterious man with all of the answers, takes his time to answer this call and only picks up at the last ring. “And how are you this sunny morning?” Casey looks up at the sky, the atmosphere humid and the clouds thick with an upcoming storm. Grimacing once more, he doesn’t reply, but soon he hears a laugh coming from the enigma himself, Kamren. “Somebody isn’t in a good mood; I presumed punching your boss in a face would bring you some excitement.” “Where are the girls?” “Well, the Spice Girls are….” “Not them!!” Acting oblivious, Kamren retorts. “Which girls, then? Those insufferable new girl bands are not worth knowing the destination of.” “Dianna, Marie, Kenna, and Elizabeth.” Casey snarls out the words, the girls he used to be closest with gone, and the only person with the knowledge of their destination playing coy. “Ah, yes, them. Get in the car to your right and I’ll show you.” Casey stops right where he stands, and when he turns to his right he sees a sleek black BMW parked. Slowly, the passenger window rolls down, and Kamren leans forward from the passenger seat with a large grin. Casey wants nothing more than to punch this man in the face, but instead only watches as the vampire pushes open the passenger door. “You saw me all along, and what? Were you purposely trying to annoy me?!” Kamren only smirks, pushing the passenger door further out. “Get in before I leave you here and throw my joint out in between your feet. I wouldn’t really want to waste good weed, but the look on your face when you get arrested would totally be worth it.” Rolling his eyes, Casey steps into the passenger seat, but isn’t even given the chance to put on his seat belt before Kamren speeds off of the street. Making an extremely illegal u-turn, Kamren spins an entire one eight right beside the police station and speeds off with the largest grin upon his face. Casey stares at the man with shock, unable to hold in his disbelief towards the vampire humming ‘N Sync. “I know I am attractive, Casey, but I do prefer my men much brawnier than you.” Kamren briefly looks away from the front of the road and smirks at Casey. “So please, look away.” “You are speeding with an officer in the car.” Casey finally sputters out his disbelief and Kamren only laughs, focusing back on the road and making it a point to speed up. “An ex-cop, in case you didn’t forget, you just broke your boss’s nose.” Veering right, Kamren says almost to himself. “At least you can throw a punch.” “Ex-cop or not, slow the hell down.” Casey orders but Kamren merely scoffs and speeds up once again. Going seventy in a thirty five, Casey is gripping onto anything he can grab onto as Kamren is cheerfully singing ‘N Sync while purposely swerving with the goal to terrify Casey more than he already is. Before Kamren could successfully make Casey urinate on himself, the joyous vampire slows to a stop at the bottom of a hill, getting out of the car without a word. Casey looks first down at himself, partially surprised that he is still alive, and only after does he slowly get out of the car after Kamren. Kamren stands, with his hands in his pockets, in front of this large hill with his piercing blue eyes darkening with anger. Casey follows after him, staring at the top of this hill as Kamren is, but finding absolutely nothing there. Quizzically, Casey looks back at Kamren, briefly wandering if this is all a prank. “You cannot see it,” Kamren murmurs. “But there is a mansion here larger than one any human, no matter how rich, could dare to own. Only the Royal family themselves have a bigger home than this one. It is only once a human is inside of this abode that they are allowed to see its beauty.” “And this is where Dianna is?” “Not just Dianna,” Kamren looks over at the man standing beside him. “So are the three other girls that you care for. They are who Niklas wanted, not Dianna, she was but the pawn in this game of his to gain the other three.” “Why does he want them?” Rolling his eyes, Kamren groans. “Must I re-explain everything to you? I suppose it was my fault for thinking you were going to be a competent drunk. I’m going to stupidify this for you, alright human?” “No need to be a d**k…” Casey grumbles before being interrupted. “Niklas wanted to marry Queen Alina for her power, she said no, he got angry, and he used his charm to turn girls into evil vampires ready to fight a war against Queen Alina and her four vampiric brethren. The last three girls he is turning into vampires to send to kill all of the royals are the three friends of your ex-girlfriend. He wants to be ruler of vampires, and for that he needs an army; he uses his charm to get women to be his army. He is evil, Dianna was going to help me stop him, and he took her for his own plan. We save Dianna, the three of us regroup, and the three of us kill Niklas before he turns these three girls and before he goes after my Queen.” Kamren gives him a dry look. “Was that simplistic enough?” “I remember now, dick.” Casey looks up at the empty space where Dianna is captured, and he asks. “But how do I get into a place I cannot even see?” “We are not going today; I need to train you first.” Casey looks at Kamren with shock but the vampire only continues to speak. “But worry none about how you are to get inside, it isn’t your concern. We must move fast though, for Dianna does not have much longer inside of that mansion.” “They are going to kill her?!” Casey takes a step towards the hill before Kamren grabs onto his arm, stopping him. “Let me go! We need to go now!” “Rash fighting will end in one dead former deputy.” Kamren lets go of Casey’s arm and grumbles. “Get into the car before we are caught outside of his property.” “I’m not going to let her die.” Casey stands his ground but is surprised by Kamren’s quick fury, his blue eyes glowing with anger. “Do you think I want her to die? We are bounded together by blood, therefore I am feeling every torturous moment of her life right now, and her death will feel as if I too am dying. I want her alive as badly as you do, or else I wouldn’t have ever invested any of my time in you. Now, get in the car before I rip your head off.” Immediately, and almost fearfully, Casey stumbles towards the car. Once he is in the passenger side, Kamren is already driving out of the area and speeding towards the opposite direction. For a while, Casey is hesitant to speak, the anger still evident on Kamren’s face, but soon the temptation for his question becomes too overbearing. “Why are you bounded to Dianna?” Forcefully, Kamren bites out a laugh, punching off his ‘N Sync album and replying to Casey. “I’m gay, human, as I thought I made very obvious so stop with this jealousy.” “No, I’m just curious is all.” Casey admits and as they slow down for a stop sign, Kamren looks up at Casey. “Niklas owns the biggest human slave business for vampires. The Queen believes that is why he has so many female vampire lovers in his home, to help him run his slave business. Dianna and I always knew it was going to be a possibility that he would take her, and so I marked her as mine to protect her from the trafficking he would’ve subjected her to if not marked by me.” As Kamren continues speeding, he adds. “When a human is marked by a vampire, the taste of their blood is repulsive to all but his or her vampire, and that vampire is only allured by that specific human’s blood.” “You saved her life?” Casey asks and the only response he gets is a quick grunt. After several minutes of unbearable ‘N Sync mixed with awkward silence, Kamren pulls to a stop in front of a black painted building with an unusual red symbol painted above the charcoal colored door. Slowly getting out of the car, Casey stares at the symbol, perplexed and fascinated by whatever its meaning may be. It looks like a capital I but with a thick circle around the top of the letter, the middle of the circle bare of color. “It symbolizes night, allowing me not to have to ask permission to enter my own building.” Kamren brushes past Casey, strolling into the black painted building that almost looks abandoned, and Casey quickly starts jogging after him. As soon as he enters this building far from his original hometown, a spear with a blood stained tip comes spinning towards him. Quickly, out of instinct, Casey ducks in time to feel the weapon graze the tip of his brown hair. With shock, Casey jumps up and looks at Kamren with shock as the vampire emerges from the darkness with two more spears in both hands and a simple smirk on his face. “You’re quick, but your technique needs work,” His smirk turns into a full blown grin. “Let’s play catch, human.” And, without warning, both spears come barreling towards Casey’s heart.
