Persimmon

BIRDIE'S POV: Mate or not, nothing will stop this from happening. A month. A month of constant torture at the hands of alpha Odin. My body bore the burnt of his fury. Whenever he came home angry, he would take it all out on me. I can't count the number of times I'd passed out while he was pushing me, or using my body for his pleasure. He didn't care that I was his mate. It meant nothing to a monster like him. Everyday I would suffer at his hands until I was on the verge of passing out or dying. All my dreams of a happy life was dashed against the rocks, and I was left alone. I hadn't seen Vance or Josephine ever since I got captured. I didn't know if they were still alive or not. I can't stay in this place any longer. Any more of this and I'm sure I will die. My life is over. My pack is gone, and my family is very likely dead. "Persimmon!" I flinched, my stomach twisting in knots. I hate that nickname. I hate it more than anything. I looked up from the ground and met Alpha Odin's eyes. He's grinning at me, his eyes glinting with malicious intent. "What's the matter with you?" He grabbed my hair and pulled me up. I screamed in pain, his grip so forceful he pulled out clumps of my hair from the root. "You're slobbering all over my f*****g floors! You think your life is so hard?! Is that why you're carrying a long face everywhere?!" "I-I'm sorry! I didn't..." He threw me aside. I banged my knee on the ground, shockwaves of pain zapped through my body. "For f***s sake! Wipe that frown off your face!" I looked up at him through my tears. "I hate you!" I screamed. "You feel nothing treating your mate like this?!" He threw his head ba k and guffawed. "My mate?! As if I could ever accept Abdiel's filthy spawn as my mate!" His words cut deep into my heart. My wolf howled in pain, and I bit my lip hard to prevent me from crying. "Then why won't you reject me?!" I cried. I grabbed my chest, the pain nestled deep. Doesn't he feel it?! Even with my weak wolf, I can feek the pain my mage is putting me through. "Why are you so cruel?!" He tilted his head to the side and stared at me like I was a bug at the sidewalk. "Come to me when you're done." My heart skipped a beat. That could only mean more abuse at his hands. My body still hasn't recovered from last night. "Yes, Alpha Odin." I said. "Good." I lied. I decided there and then that I won't suffer another day at his hands. I must leave this place even if it kills me. ****** I prayed to the goddess that no one will be able to hear how hard my heart was beating in my chest. The pack house was fully guarded. I waited till midnight, hidden in the storage room where Odin won't be able to find me even if he tried. Past midnight I crept out, careful not to make a noise that would give me away. I made my way to the bank door that led to the gardens and beyond the garden was the large forest. I didn't know the full layout of the surroundings, but I just knew I had to make it out of here first. I took nothing with me. Not even water. I couldn't risk anyone finding me at all. I got to the back door without anyone spotting me. Just as I was about to thank the goddess for my good luck, I felt a hand on my shoulder pulling me into the corner. A hand clamped on my mouth, a furious hiss of "stay quiet." In my ear. My blood turned to ice in my veins. My eyes went wide, and I knew that I was dead. Just then, two guards walked past us, talking and laughing in an drunken haze. "You should've been more careful." The personal holding me whispered. "Here, take this," I felt a cold pointy object pressed into my side. A dagger! I shook my beg, trying to beg for my life but their hand on my mouth prevented me from making any noise. "I'm not going to hurt you, damn it. Just take this and run. Don't ever come back to this place, and don't let them catch you." I went very still. The dagger prodded me twice. I reached out with shaky hands and took it . The hilt of it felt cold, I gripped it as hard as I could. "Now, don't scream. Don't look back. Just keep going. The guards are distracted, just keep running. Do you understand?" "Y-yes" I whispered. I turned my neck to get a look but they held my chin and forced my face forward. "m-my...." "Your siblings are fine." The person said. "Odin has them as warriors. don't worry about them. You're the one in danger here." Tears filled my eyes. Why me?! "Go now. May the goddess be with you." I took off running, the dagger pressed to my chest. Out of the back door and into the back gardens. I ran without looking back, gasping for breath and praying for safety. I couldn't place the voice that had spoken to me. Whoever it was, I prayed they wouldn't get caught. Vance and Josephine were alive. That much I was grateful for. I kept running. My lungs burned and I felt like I would pass out. But the fear of being caught propelled me forward. I can't risk being found. Not now. If Odin finds me, he will kill me. And he will kill my siblings too. I suddenly paused and turned back. Vance and Josephine are still in that place. They're strong, they're both stronger than me. And yet I can't shake off the guilt that I'm leaving them behind. Tears filled my eyes and I choked on a sob. It's too late now. I can't go back. I will be putting them in more danger if I return. "Please be okay. Please be safe." I will never forgive myself for this. And yet, I turned and continued running only pausing for a quick breath before I continued. The forest seemed endless. The night too long. After what seemed like hours later, the sky began to lighten. I ran out to what looked like a highway road, still empty at the time of day. My legs felt like lead, I couldn't go any further. I collapsed by the roadside, exhausted, covered in sweat and blood, my vision blurry and going dark. I'm not going to last much longer. I hope my body is found before I begin to rot. Through the haze that threatened to take over me, I heard tires screech against the asphalt. Light flooded me and I squinted. Someone is here. They're coming closer to me. I gripped the dagger with whatever strength I had left. "What is this?" A gruff voice said. "A runaway?" Fuck. Odin must have found me. The man came closer. I squinted against the light, and I could see his silhouette. He got closer to me, and I swiped the dagger at his face. The lights went off, and I could see him partially. I saw the s***h across his nose bridge dripping with blood. I saw the wound close up in seconds. I saw his eyes, dark blue. It wasn't Odin. No. It was something worse. There's only one group who have such insane healing abilities. The man snatched the dagger out of my hand and three it to the side. "that wasn't very nice," He said, his voice smooth and deep. My eyes rolled to the back of my head. The last thought on my mind being how unlucky at life I was. I ran from Odin. Only to be found by the devil's spawn himself. A lycan.
