The Ruthless Brothers

The world stopped moving, and so did all the blood rushing through my veins. I staggered backwards until my back pressed against the door, reminding me that I was cornered like a mouse. The three of them stood in front of me. Thevron was the oldest and the coldest. He was tall, a large contrast to my five-foot-six inches. His short, cropped jet-black hair framed his angular face, and his cold blue eyes, deep like the oceans depth, pierced through my soul. His full lips were pressed into a firm line as he scowled, scrunching his straight nose. He was muscular, his arms big and strong enough to break me in two. His presence demanded control, and his calm demeanor added a flare to his scary looks. Kairon was second, and the most irritable. He was just as tall as Thevron, with wavy jet hair that gave him a boyish, golden retriever look. But don’t be deceived; He was as cruel as they come. His eyes were a cold gray, like polished steel framed underneath thick long lashes. He was more on the leaner side, his body athletic. Zavian, who was the last, was the most easygoing, but that didn’t make him any better. He was what you’d call a psychopath. He’d keep a smile plastered on his face even while he killed you. His looks were more on the sexy side, with a wavy mullet sporting an undercut. His gray eyes were the color of a smoky storm, with specks of blue visible in them now that I was this close to him. He had a lip piercing which added to his unhinged look. He was just as muscular as Thevron. They were handsome, like demigods walking on the face of the earth, but their hearts were ugly. “What do you want from me?” I hated how shaky my voice rang, revealing just how much their presence frightened me. Thevron leaned close, one hand pressing against the door as he grasped my jaw in a vice grip. His fingers dug into my skin as he forced me to hold his gaze. “You don’t belong here. I don’t know why my mother let you in here,” his voice was cold and sharp, just as his blue eyes. “Not after what you did.” I tried to free myself from his grip, as I cried out. “I don’t remember what happened that night, I swear. It was all vague to me.” “Just like you don’t remember how you killed your parents,” Kairon cut in, his voice low but cutting deep just as he intended. A pang shot through my chest. “I was only five for goddess sake!” I bit out, my frustration and searing anger evident in my tone. An irritated look crossed Thevron’s face as his hand slipped down and gripped my neck. I choked, panic shooting through me as I held his wrist. “You know what I think?” It was Zavian who spoke as he moved closer, an amusing look flashing through his eyes. “It’s a great thing you’re here… makes it easier to ruin your life.” I swallowed the thick lump in my throat. “Ravenwood is a place where the weak and useless are torn apart by the powerful ones,” Thevron spoke, the chill in his voice sending shudders down my spine. “You made a big mistake coming here.” I tried to struggle off his grip as his hand circled my neck, but it was futile. The more I tried to protest, the tighter his hold on my grew, seizing the air in my lungs. I searched around, looking for anyone to come to my aid, but there was nothing. I was alone here, with these boys who were more than ready to tear me apart. They could kill me, burn my body and no one would bat an eye. I was defenseless in their midst, so I resorted to the only thing I could do. I compensated. “Believe me, I never murdered your sister. She was my friend,” my voice faded at the last part as painful memories flooded my mind. “Something happened that night, and I’m trying to remember. I just need time to find the truth and prove my innocence.” Iris was nice to me, unlike her cruel brothers. They had always been this way, even before her death. I could still remember Iris taking me to a spot where we played in the woods. I was eight, living in an orphanage. She’d come to visit me, bring me treats and play with me. The day she died, we were playing. She’d invited her brothers, and they were on their way. A shadow had surrounded my mind. I could still remember the torment and pain as it enveloped my mind. Iris tried to help, but what happened after that left a space in my mind. The image of her lifeless body flashed through my mind, blood trickling down her heart, coating the grass. Blood, blood. Suddenly, a sharp headache pounded through my skull, and I winced. I lost my stamina only momentarily, and then everything stabilized as the headache vanished. “Please… just let me go,” I pleaded. Silence hung for too long, making me uneasy. And then Zavian broke the silence, his lips curved into a sinister smirk. “Alright then.” Relief pounded through my chest as Thevron released his hold on my neck, making it easier to breathe. But it was short-lived when Zavian moved closer and he grabbed my collar. In one sweep, he ripped my shirt. The ripping sound tore through the silence as I let out a yelp. Immediately I saw the flash of a phone, I wrapped my arms over my chest, covering my bra as panic surging through me. Zavian’s evil cackle ripped through the air as flaring rage coursed through me. “You think that’s funny?” I seethed, my voice raised as something inside me snapped. The others didn’t try to help or whatsoever, they all stared, enjoying my embarrassment. “Pure entertainment,” Kairon responded, indignation in his tone. “Stop recording,” I snapped as I tried to reach for the phone with one hand, while my free hand held unto my ripped shirt, shielding my boobs. Thevron only watched in silence, as his brothers humiliated me like I wasn’t a person. But that was the problem. They didn’t see me as a person. To them, I was nothing but an object. “A murderer, and a hooker too?” Zavian’s voice cut deep. “Trash like you don’t deserve to be in this academy.” “What do you want me to do?” I stood, no longer trying to reach for the phone, seeing how useless it was. Tears stung in my eyes. “Just tell me. I’ll do it.” There goes my resolution to fight my bullies. Here I was, surrendering myself to the ruthless Alphas. “You gave in too easily,” Kairon spoke, his arms crossed over my chest as he stared me down. “That’s less fun.” A relentless defiance suddenly coursed through me, taking over my defenselessness. They wanted to break me. Giving in would only push them harder, but showing guts despite all the crueltly thrown at me would be a challenge. If they wanted a challenge, I’d give them just that. I tipped my chin upward as I stared at Kairon in the eye. “The sooner I give in, the quicker this ends, right?” His brows knotted, surprised at my sudden shift. “Trying to be tough with us, mutt?” Zavian spoke, moving close enough that I could feel his body heat radiating off me. He was taller than me, so I had to lift my head to meet his gaze. His lingering gaze drifted down, settling on my chest. “Take off your hand.” His command cut clear, catching me offguard for a moment, but my expression didn’t falter. I kept the hard look trained on my face, and pulled my hands down, revealing my breasts cupped in my pink lacy bra. Something shifted through his eyes as his gaze lingered on my breasts. The camera light illuminated my face as he pulled the phone closer, making it hard to make out their faces. “Kneel.” My breath hitched. It was Thevron who spoke, his voice sharp enough to cut through glass. They wanted to belittle me, making me submit to their demands. Seeing I was trapped, I slowly went down on my knees, until they touched the ground. “Is that all--” I said, but my voice was immediately cut off when something poured down my head. It coated my hair, pouring all over my face and down to my breasts. I froze, and when I touched my hair, something greasy coated my fingers. Cooking oil. Thevron leaned in, looking down at me like I was nothing. When his fingers grasped my cheek, they burned with an intensity that made unease coil in my gut. “This is just the beginning, Vespera,” my name rolled off his tongue like a curse word. “You’ll pay for what you did to our sister,” he growled. “You’ll wish for death to take you, but your fate has already been decided. We call the shots in your life.” He let go of my cheek, and I cast my head downward. Tears burned my eyes, but I didn’t let them fall. I couldn’t let them see me break… not now, not ever. I tipped my chin upward and held their gaze. “Your sister was kind. I wonder how she’d feel seeing the monsters her brothers had turned into.” A fist reached for my face, so fast that I didn’t see it coming. I braced myself for the impact, but a sudden thud from behind made me flinch. Thevron’s face was dangerously close, his fuming breath hot against my skin. My lungs seized as my pulse quickened. “Mention her again, and I’ll kill you.” He straightened, shoving me aside before kicking the door open. “We have a party tonight at our condo. If you don’t want your video leaked to everyone in school,” he glanced at me from over his shoulder, “Be sure to attend.” With that, he walked away, and his brothers followed, leaving me alone in the auditorium. Immediately I was alone, I broke down, sliding down to the ground as I hugged my knees to my chest. I let the tears fall. The throbbing headache suddenly shot through my skull, this time worst than the last. My ears rung, excruciating pain shooting through my eardrums as I let out a cry. Darkness enveloped me, collapsing around me. Ronan was the last thing I saw before I passed out cold.
