Chapter Three

535 Words
Third party POV After the introductions had been made and most of the tension had worn away, people began to mingle while eating outside under the canopy. Even though Maeve was making her rounds and being the good hostess that she was expected to be, her mind kept wandering to the smell from earlier and the piercing ice blue eyes of the man that was staring at her. Eventually she spotted Emily and asked her parents if she could step away for a moment. She quickly ran over to Emily and dragged her by the arm into the empty pack house. Maeve’s POV “what has gotten into you? Let go of my arm, Maeve” said Emily annoyed and confused at having been dragged away from the party. “I’m sorry, I really am. But I needed to talk to you somewhere we couldn’t be heard” Emily and I stared at each other for moment while I chewed on my lip in worry. “Well? Spit it out already, all that eye candy leaves tomorrow, and I do not want to spend this time trapped in the house with you, no offence” she snaps. “I think he might be here” “who’s here?” she looks around, bewildered. “my mate”. Emily freezes, staring at me in shock with her mouth hanging open. I reach over and close it for her. “Are you sure?” she asks, shoving my hand away. “no, not exactly. But I think I smell him and earlier when I first did, I caught a glance at man who was staring right at me even though my father was speaking” Emily began to laugh. “One day in a dress and you already think every man wants you”, she doubles over laughing. I shove her slightly, annoyed she isn’t taking my worries seriously. “Fine, let’s go back out so you can stare at the unmated men some more”. As we walked to the doors, Emily rushes ahead and swings both doors open. I look at her quizzically. “to fit your big head” she states with fake seriousness before starting to laugh again, this time I joined her. However, the laughter quickly died when we walked out the doors and saw him standing in front of us. His face held no expression as her stood there with his arms crossed. Our eyes locked. My heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest. “Mate” he muttered before turning around and walking away. Emily’s head snapped to me so quickly I thought it would break. “what just happened?” she asked, shock written all over her face. “I don’t know” I responded “why did he just leave?” “I don’t know” my eyes started to become misty. Why did I have this need to run after him? Why did him walking away feel like he was rejecting me? My heart hurt as I watched him walk away.
