Chapter 6The weekend was upon us and it was our turn to have Tom's daughter. I preferred it these days when she was over. Admittedly, in the early days it was difficult at times when Cara visited as having not had any of my own children I wanted to be able to do what I wanted, when I wanted. I didn't expect that I would have to give up my freedoms for someone else's kid. I was happy to get involved and spend time together but I didn't realise I was going to become a step mum so quickly. I wondered occasionally if Tom had deliberately sought out that position to be filled. As time went on I didn't believe his demands were for nurturing reasons either. I believed it was because he resented having his freedoms taken away from him and wanted to make someone as trapped as he felt.
