Tori's POV
The full moon is coming, I can feel it in my bones. Every twenty-nine days I have this urge, this need and for a whole year, I have had to figure it out on my own. My life changed, a year ago I had to watch my entire species die, I had to watch other species die and those memories I just wish I could erase. Now that I have them, I carry them, like a torch leading me in the dark. It is my fuel, my drive, and my reason to go on.
I don't know when I don't know how but I will use this new me to destroy the man that ruined my life. I will gut him and pull out each one of his organs one by one. That will not be enough pain to avenge the pain he has caused me. I don't want to deal with those memories right now, so I shake them away and instead focus on the scene in front of me. I can see a group of vampires torturing a newborn.
They are tormenting and harassing him, he is hungry and needs blood, I know I need to keep an eye out for him. If he escapes this campsite and gets into one of the towns, his hunger will make him destroy lives. He has no control, what is worst for him is that the vampire who turned him is literally torturing him. This makes me so sick, I want to go down there, and rip heads off and, in the mood, I am in I will destroy them with one blow.
Suddenly I feel a strange tingling feeling in my chest area, it doesn't hurt or anything, but it feels odd. I can sense that there are others here besides the vampires. I can smell them, I scan the area and notice across the field, high up on a hilltop are seven wolves. They seem to be watching the vampires and I wonder if they are here for the same reason I am here.
Secunda was once a land of peace, divided into 4 equal parts and governed by strict rules. There were the vampires, the wolves, the humans, and space dedicated to the lost and everything else. It started out as a place where the exiled were sent and then gradually it became the place that those lost found themselves drawn to. Each region had its leader and each leader ensured that their area and people never crossed each other.
We lived in harmony, that was until Frans came to town. Fran is a vampire, an old vampire, a strong vampire, and a cruel, power-hungry demon. He became a vampire by pledging his life to one of the oldest and original vampires that lived. He spent years learning the way of the vampire in his human form then he convinced his master to turn him. Those were still in the days when humans had no idea what lurked in the darkness but Frans was the odd one.
His master turned him, which was his biggest mistake, once turned Frans created his own vampires, left his master, and built his own empire. No one knew where Frans went or what happened to him but some of us always believed that he was trouble. Turned out, we were right. A year ago, Frans showed up, he destroyed everything in sight. He murdered wolves, vampires, and humans. He was ruthless in his ways and then he did what no one should ever do.
He experimented with genetics. That is how I ended up the way I am, he tipped the balance of nature and all for what, because he wanted to be the most powerful being on earth. Thinking about Frans made me feel sick to my stomach. I continued to watch the scene below. The group was still torturing the weakling that was slowly losing his will. He wasn't going to last much longer, he wanted to run, and he was already scanning the area for a way out.
I can feel someone watching me, I look ahead, and I can see the pack, I assumed the one staring is the Alpha, he doesn't give Alpha vibes. I know what an Alpha is, and I most definitely can tell what vibe they give off. Something about him seems so familiar and yet I know I have never seen him before in my life. The only thing I can sense of him is anger, pure hatred and I know he must be here for the same reason I am here.
The newborn is about to make a run for it, I need to deal with him first and then I will come back for the rest. Just as they disappear into the tent, he makes a run for the collapsing fence. I move swiftly, grabbing him by the wrists and pinning him down.
"Take a deep breath," I say softly.
"Let me go." He tries to pull out of my grip.
"I know what you need."
"You do?" he asks looking at me with terrified eyes.
"I need you to calm down and listen to me."
He nods and I let go of him
"I am Tori, I can show you how to overcome this thirst without hurting anyone."
"I …I need blood, I need it really badly." He says looking away from me.
" Close your eyes, take a deep breath imagine yourself falling slowly, you are falling slowly and calmly. You land on a soft bed. Now stand up and walk away from the bed."
As he opens his eyes, I can see that he is calmer and ready for the next part of the lesson. I can smell some rabbits close by and I know there isn't enough blood in them, but it will do for now.
"Stay put, I will be back with something for you."
In a flash I grab two rabbits and rush back, he hasn't moved a muscle, mostly because he is calm and because I can command other vampires to do whatever I want them to do. The only reason I can do this is that I am one of the only remaining original vampires alive, well kind of a vampire.
"Drink," I say and had him the rabbit.
At first, he looks at me like I am crazy, and then because it was a command, he was unable to stop himself. He drank the first one and then the second one hastily.
"Grab that stick and dig a hole," I command
"Now burry the remains, we must never leave a mess behind us, do you understand me," I ask him.
"Yes, who are you?" He asks.
"My name is Tori and I am here to save you," I tell him.
"Are you from the camp?" He asks.
"No, I am alone, but I saw what they did to you and I can help you if you will trust me and listen to me," I say, I know I have won him, but I wait for his reply before making my next move.
He nods at me and I take his hand in mine,
"Where is your family?" I ask
"They…They are dead, he has killed them." The boy seems shaken by the thought. Clearly, he has not had time to fully morph into a full vampire. Vampires, feel nothing, emotions are something that they do not know anything about. Especially the kind of vampires that turned and never trained.
"You need to go with me, I am going to take you someplace safe, someone I trust is going to train you with others like you," I say to him.
Again he nods and I take his hand and run at lightning speed, I know I need to get back to the campsite before the wolves attack. They have no idea what they are in for and I need to warn them.
As we reach the safe house, I have a million memories, pains I don't want to deal with resurfaces but I push it down. I must do what is important and that is to keep going until the end of the fight. The war has only just begun. We will have time to mourn, but later, when the enemy is defeated, when the enemy is dead. Then and only then can we mourn.
"This is Minnie. She is here to train you. If you get out of hand, she will put you down." I say to the boy.
"What is she?" He asks.
"She is a werewolf and if she bites you, you will die instantly," I say as a warning.
"I thought vampires and werewolves hate each other."
"Not ones who have to fight in this war together," Minnie says bitterly.
"You are in the middle of a war kid, we going to keep you safe, unlike the bastards who made you and left you to die," I say pushing him inside.
Nightfall wasn't far away, and I needed to get back, I looked around and I could tell that this room held so much pain. So many wolves, humans, and vampires tormented and tortured inside these very walls. Only a hand full of us survived and those of us who did, well we were ready to fight, to fight the greatest war of our lives.
