Jackson's POV
I don't want to admit it, but I feel sorry for the weakling the vampires are torturing, honestly what they doing to him is despicable. I don't know how much more of this I can take or how much more he can take. It's been a few minutes and they finally stop and go into the tent. I take a deep breath, releasing slowly. I know the moment of truth is here.
I watch the weakling runoff, about the same time I sense the shadow move, fast, maybe it is his family or something. I decide it is better to focus my attention on the fight that is about to happen.
This fight is the first of many fights to come, but this fight is the one that will bring us closer to the main villain of the story. I still don't know who or what he is but today I will be one step closer to finding out.
I can feel the anger surging through me as my body changes. My wolf is ready for the fight and I look to my pack members, their yellow eyes gleaming, they are ready. I feel their pain and I know that each of them wants revenge for their families. We make our way over the collapsing fence. They have no security or measures up to protect themselves, they seem corky that nothing can destroy them.
The pack and I surround the tent, I let out a howl to let them know that we are here. I can hear them laughing, the one who tortured the weakling comes out.
"What do we have here? Some lost puppies." He says and throws his head laughing. The rest of them emerge, they are four. We can take them, even in our human form.
Suddenly something feels wrong, this is too easy, and I howl to let the pack know that we need to be wary. Something about this feels so off but I can't figure out what.
Angelo ignores my command and leaps forward, the vampire jumps towards him meeting him mid-air, he sinks his long claws into Angelo's side. Angelo slumps down and whimpers in pain. Then the vampire grabs his hind legs and snaps them as if they were just a weak stick. Angelo slumps down and changes back to his human form. Gail charges for the vampire and rips a chunk of his leg off, he grabs her throat and flings her aside as he stumbles and falls to the ground. He laughs as blood gushes out of his open wound, just as we notice Gail shift back into her human form and fall flat on her face. She seems paralyzed and doesn't move.
There must be something in their bloodstream, I howl and shift. The rest of the pack follows, we need to fight them in our human form. The remaining three vampires seem unphased, but they get ready to fight. Bruce, Caleb, and I launch forward like a missile. The girls tend to the injured. Hilda and Iva carry Gail into the tent, they come back for Angelo. Then Iva comes back out with an Axe, she goes straight to the injured vampire, he is weak from the blood loss but he is still laughing, she chops his head off and then throws the ax to Caleb.
Caleb wastes no time, he hacks the vampire he is fighting, again Iva chops of his head. She is starting to worry me, but I will deal with that later. Bruce and I finish the fight by ripping off the heads, we both strong enough to do this with our bare hands.
We join Hilda inside the tent, both Gail and Angelo seem completely out of it, I am so angry with Angelo, but I keep my calm, Bruce and I search the tent but find nothing that could be of use to us.
"We have to get them home!" Hilda says.
"We can't move Angelo, we have to let him heal here or he might end up with a damaged structure," I add.
She doesn't argue and goes back to tending the injured. Off all the wolves in my pack, Hilda is the one I know who would never defy me, maybe because she is Bruce's mate and they respect me as their Alpha. Fully transformed or not, you see there is only one issue with me being Alpha without a mate, I can't reach my final form until the day I mark her, which means I am an Alpha with yellow eyes. An Alpha, a true Alpha, well his eyes are red when he is in his wolf form.
My father's eyes were red in his wolf form, when he shifted, my mother shifted, and both their eyes would change to red and they could draw energy from each other. I guess that was one of the reasons I so badly wanted to find her because until I did, I could never take over the pack. Sadly, fate had other plans for me.
The night air was filled with mystery, the small group of vampires sent to torture the few of us left, are dead and I stand at the entrance of the tent and look around. For now, we are safe, but soon more blood-thirsty, angry vampires will come. They will come looking for their friends and then we had better be ready.
"We need to find out what is in their bloodstream," I say to Bruce.
"Hilda thinks it is some kind of poison that is harmful to wolves."
"Will Gail be ok?" I ask.
"She doesn't know." Bruce looks away.
"Angelo needs to shift, he will heal faster as a wolf than a human," I say.
"He is in too much pain to shift," Hilda says as she joins us.
"What about Gail, can she shift?" I ask.
"She can't, she can't even blink" Hilda replies.
"Damn it!" I say and run my fingers through my hair.
There is no way that we can go back to the safety of our cave with Angelo and Gail being out of it. The only way is to stay and take turns guarding to make sure that nothing goes wrong.
"Bruce, take Hilda back to the cave, get whatever is needed for the both of them to heal, watch your backs and if anything happens call me."
"Caleb and Iva stand guard while I gather food, where is Iva?" I ask when I realize she isn't in the tent.
"I will go get her," Caleb says.
I walk Bruce and Hilda outside, Bruce looks at me and says,
"Where the hell did she disappear to?"
"I have no clue but we need to address this soon."
"She just needs a little time," Hilda says.
"Go on you too and get back as soon as you can, I don't like this pack separated for too long."
As they change back to their wolf forms, I head back into the tent, I look at Angelo, he is in a lot of pain, I wish I could help him. A True Alpha can draw the pain of others but I have not reached that form yet so I cannot help him.
"Do you need anything?" I ask him.
"How about a real Alpha who could do what this pack needs." He says between clenched teeth.
"Why didn't you wait as I told you to," I ask.
"Because you are not my Alpha and you will never be anything but a fool trying to fill his daddy's shoes that are too big for him."
"I will be outside if you need me!" I say and turn to walk away.
"Jackson!" I hear Angelo shout.
"Help her." He says.
I look to Gail, she is starting to gag, like she is choking, I turn her head to the side and force her mouth open, yellowish liquid pours out her mouth, I feel her temperature and she is boiling hot. I am internally freaking out why telling Angelo that she will be ok while rubbing Gail's back as she throws up. Hilda needs to get back soon, I see a bottle of water and I grab it, I first sniff it to make sure, and then I pour some down Gail's throat. She is breathing heavily and I have no clue what I am doing. Caleb and Iva come in and Iva takes over, I am glad for that because I can not deal anymore.
"I don't think she is going to make it," Iva says.
"If she dies, Jackson, I will kill you," Angelo says.
"How is this his fault, if you listened to his warning and held back, she would not have attacked that Vampire, so if she dies, it is on you!" Iva shouts at Angelo.
It has been more than two hours since we attacked the vampires, Bruce and Hilda are on their way back, I can sense them. Gail is getting worst by the minute and Angelo is getting angrier. Caleb and I take turns to guard, we keep our eyes open and listen for anything and anyone.
Finally, Bruce and Hilda get back, Hilda rushes into the tent and attends to Gail, her face looks dark and worried, she looks to me and I can see that she isn't sure of what is happening. I can sense her feeling defeated and I give her a reassuring look.
Suddenly my wolf stirs awake, and I can feel something rushing towards the tent, I leap outside and stare wide-eyed at the shadow approaching the tent in lighting speed.
