Jackson's Vengeance

Chapter 6

Tori’s POV

Finally, we arrived at the safehouse, it didn’t look like much from the outside because it was designed to be hidden in the bushes and to never be found by anyone, I could tell that the wolves were not too impressed, and I smiled to myself.

As we approached the gate, I knocked and waited for the guard on duty to open the gate, he pulled open the peephole, and once he saw it was me, he opened the gates immediately. The wolves hesitated at the gate and I turned to look at them,

“Well, what are you waiting for?” I ask with a smirk. I know the Alpha hates it when I smirk. He felt like he needed to prove something to me, he marched angrily in and practically dragged Caleb in, not giving him enough time to realize what is happening.

“This way to the medical center,” I say and keep walking.

They followed and as we walked through, they looked around and there were mostly vampires about, mainly because it was night already and they just started their day. The vampires were not freaked out by seeing wolves because we lived as a united group, to us we didn’t see wolves, vampires, or humans, what we see in each other is survivors who fought to survive, who are fighting to win a war that ruined most of our lives.

“I don’t like this.” I hear Iva say to the rest.

“This is the medical center,” I say.

We step inside and instantly I sense them relax as they notice other wolves, I smile to myself and feel like we have a win today. We have had some good days when loved ones were reunited and some bad days when their loved ones were found but were too injured and didn’t make it. Some never found their loved ones like Minnie.

“Go get Minnie,” I say to one of the younger vampires I rescued from the hands of Frans henchmen. She rushes out and I wait, the pack is staring at me with wide eyes, but it is Hilda who looks the most hopeful and I know why. The questions in her eyes make me want to break my silence but I wait, the longer we wait the more anxious I see the Alpha turn.

Minnie walks through the door and Hilda leaps to her, tears streaming down her face and saying,

“I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it!” Hilda says crying so hard.

“Hilda, my girl, I am here.” Minnie says I can hear the emotions in her voice, but the tears don’t roll down. I know she has been through so much that there are no tears left to cry.

“You knew, you knew all the time, why didn’t you tell me?” Hilda says to me.

“I knew from the moment I first saw you, but I wanted you to see her for yourself,” I reply.

“Tori, she saved my life, Hilda, I owe her everything, all of us do,” Minnie says.

“It was a team effort,” I say.

I step aside so Minnie can greet the rest of the wolves, for a moment they experience short happiness and then I sense anger building up in Iva, she is looking at me with venomous eyes and I stare back at her.

“Caleb, I have a surprise for you too,” I say.

“Show me.” He says.

We all take a walk and I lead him to the kitchen, we have a huge kitchen with a few food enthusiasts that took over the preparation for the entire safehouse house. The kitchen area smells great, that is one of the greatest parts of my change, I can eat human food and that is amazing.

Caleb spots her long before I can even say anything, he runs towards her and picks her up, twirling her around. She laughs hysterically, she always said that she knew he was still alive, and I believed her. I was glad for her, for so long she had longed to find someone, anyone from her family.

“Iva, it is so good to see you.”

“Cayley, you alive!” Iva replies, it sounds more like an accusation, and I send death stares at her. She has a problem, something in her head isn’t working properly.

“Jackson!” Cayley says and runs towards the Alpha, she hugs him, and he hugs her back, I see him smile and my heart shifts. I look away, wondering what kind of relationship he has with Cayley.

“Is my brother still alive?”

“Mike!” Jackson says, his jawline tightens, and it feels like the air turned ice-cold.

“He and Gail are injured, they are at the medical center,” Bruce says.

He goes to Jackson’s right-hand side, Caleb takes the spot at the left, Hilda stands behind Bruce and Iva behind Caleb, Cayley stands behind Jackson and Minnie comes forward, I get the feeling that they are showing Mike who their Alpha is.

“Boys, there is no longer a need for holding on to old grudges, Mike go get Fin and Lin, they would want to know that their cousin is alive,” Minnie says and winks at me, I truly love the way she keeps everyone in order.

“So that is it, there is no one in my family alive?” Iva asks angrily.

“Iva, honey we are sorry, but none of them were captured,” Minnie replies.

“You knew this, bloodthirsty witch,” Iva screams.

“Iva, I am sorry but like I said I wanted them to find out for themselves.”

“Then… then why did you bring me back here?” I can see that she is getting angry, her eyes are changing color and I hoped that a fight would not break out but if it is, it is better than it is with me than any other vampire here.

Iva is heaving, her chest is moving up and down, her teeth are changing, and nails push out, she hasn’t fully transformed but she launches at me and knocks me off my feet, I jump up and say,

“Iva, calm down, I had no idea that you would feel so hurt by this.”

Caleb tries to intervene, but she knocks him off his feet, she has changed fully to her wolf form, her eyes yellow and angry, her brown coat shiny and her sharp teeth ready to rip me apart. I am not ready for them to see me fight so I leave the room in a flash, she chases after me and behind her I see Jackson, the Alpha has shifted too, his coat is black but his eyes don’t look yellow they look amber, like an in-between red and yellow, I have never seen that before.

Distracted by Jackson, I lose sight of Iva and she leaps at me, she puts me down and howls in my face, I grab her snout in both hands and hold it closed, I try to get out from under her without letting go of her snout, but it proves difficult. I shove her hard and she flies across the courtyard.

Jackson traps her between his paws and howls at her, but she fights him and gets loose, then he lets out a loud, real Alpha-like roar that stops Iva mid-run. Then it happens I can feel it happening, I scream,

“No, no, no!”

“Get back, get back now!” Minnie shouts.

Iva is still standing in the same spot and Jackson is watching me, he doesn’t move, he roars again, and Iva moves aside. Minnie shifts because only she knows what is about to happen and only, she knows what to do to bring me back.

The control I had has left my body, I feel the nails coming out as I scream, I feel my bones cracking as my body takes its new shape, even though my mind is telling my body to not change, it is doing it anyway. Almost as if it has been commanded and can not disobey the command.

I can feel the teeth already out and I know my eyes have changed already, mine is red, I am no Alpha, but Minnie thinks that my genetics were mixed with that of an Alpha either that or I was chosen but she has never told me for what.

I have fully changed, I am on all fours, I can see the shocked expression on the faces in the background. I look at Jackson and he steps back, Iva charges for me, and I leap forward. Now the odds are even, and we fight a fair fight. She tries to go for my throat, but I am too strong for her. I grab her at the back of her neck and throw her across the courtyard again. She shakes herself off and she comes back for more. She keeps coming at me and I keep throwing her aside. Mainly because I can understand her grief and I don't want to hurt her. It feels like hours have past and Jackson steps back in and howls, we both stop fighting and Iva walks away. Jackson walks to me and looks me in the eye, and I turn away, as I turn away, I feel teeth sink into the back of my neck. I slump down in shock.
