Chapter 4

1549 Words
Tori's POV I cannot believe these lunatic wolves, they have no idea who they are challenging and now I need to clean up after them before something terrible happens to all of us. They have no idea who Frans is and how many evil vampires are sired to him. I quickly grab all the vampire heads of the sticks and take them into the forest to where the she-wolf dumped the bodies, I gather everything and burn it. Then I bury the evidence and head back to the tent, wondering why they still there. As I approach the tent, I can smell it, the nauseating smell of wolfsbane poisoning, I immediately speed up and rush towards the tent. At the entrance stands a lone wolf, the angry wolf, and he is gleaming at me, waiting for me too, probably thinks I am the enemy. Four wolves appear beside him, including the crazy she-wolf who left the message for Frans. "Greetings, I am Tori, may I speak with your Alpha," I say calmly, which is the only way to handle this situation. "I am the Alpha." Angry wolf says. "You are the Alpha!" I repeat, for the second time, I sense him but don't get the Alpha vibe from him. "Are you looking for your friends?" Alpha angry wolf asks me. "No, I am here to tell you to stop leaving dangerous challenges out in the open," I say keeping my calm in place. "What are you talking about?" "Your she-wolf, she left your challenge for the vampires to find. I know these vampires, you do not want to challenge them." "What is she talking about," Alpha asks the rest of the pack. The she-wolf steps back, she looks afraid and finally she says, "I had to, we have to find the main vampire so I left them a message." "Are you crazy!" Alpha yells At the same time, we hear a scream from the tent, everyone runs in, I notice another she-wolf on the bed. She has been poisoned, I quickly dig into my satchel and pull out some belladonna berries. I smash them between my fingers and move quickly to her side. Before the wolves can stop me I press it into her mouth. The Alpha grabs me and pins me against the wall, his anger is burning brightly in his brown eyes, something in me stirs as I see a flicker in his eyes, he immediately lets me go and says, "Who the hell are you? "I am Tori, I told you and I am trying to help her so get your hands off me." I stare him down and he slowly moves aside, "If anything happens to her, I will rip you apart." He says shoving me towards the bed. The belladonna didn't do any justice yet, so I add more, then I feed the she-wolf some water. She slowly starts to breathe easy and tears flow down the sides of her eyes. In her eyes I can see that she didn't have hope of surviving. I knew that look from when we were captured. I had seen so many werewolves die this way. It was painful to watch, but I am glad I arrived in time to save her, no matter who she is or where she comes from, if she is against Frans then I am on her side. "Now all she needs is to eat some fish, the magnesium sulfate in the fish, together with the belladonna will fight the wolfsbane poison and she will live. "What is wolfsbane?" one of the other she-wolves asks. "It is a plant that can poison and kill werewolves, it was discovered by Frans the vampire you seek." "Why are you sharing this information with our kind," Alpha asks me. The grim line is still pressed to his lips and I shake my head at him. "I am one of the only living original vampires, Fran long ago came to learn under one of the elders and once he had enough knowledge, he asked his master to turn him. Then he left, never to be seen for years. When he came back, he came back with a plan to kill every living thing in this city and take over as the most powerful being. I was one of the few that were captured and not killed on sight, a bunch of us escaped and I have been in hiding, waiting to take revenge, watching and planning." "Why would he kill his kind?" Alpha asks me. He didn't seem to believe me, and I didn't blame him. "We are not his kind, we are… we were the original vampires, born out of a spell that was meant to protect us but ended up being a curse that ruined us." They are staring at me as if it is the first time that they notice me, and I laugh it off. "Anyway, about that fish or do I have to do everything?" I ask. The Alpha instructs two wolves, Bruce and Caleb to get the food, he stays to watch over me as I help the she-wolf, who seems to be the healer. "I am Hilda." She says putting her hand out and I take it. She is polite, I like that. "It's is a pleasure to meet you," I say. She asks me a lot of questions about the wolfsbane and I tell her as much as I know, I tell her everything I know about how to use the belladonna and why eating fish afterward is important. The whole time the Alpha is watching me, I can feel his eyes burning into my back. Hilda moves on the male wolf in the next bed while I continue to dab the she-wolf with a cold wet cloth. Both his legs are broken but he doesn't seem to be showing his pain, he looks very familiar, but I can't place his face. He hasn't said a word since I walked in and he is also staring at me like I am a ghost from his Christmas past. "Won't he heal faster if he shifts?" I ask. "He can't seem to shift," Hilda replies. "So why doesn't the Alpha make him?" I ask I know it is possible, I saw it when we were captured, the Alpha had made many of the werewolves turn just by looking at them with his Alpha eyes. He was a good leader but died soon after we had escaped. He taught me so much in that short time and I have so much respect for him. His aura was different from this Alpha yet there was something very similar about this one. He walked out when I asked the question, I turn to Hilda and she smiles sweetly at me. "He can't command as yet." I don't ask any further questions because I know that after the wrath of Frans, so many of us were never the same. I kind of feel sorry for him now, I go out to talk to him in the hopes of allying with him. He seems stressed out and I am not sure how to start this conversation, so I say, "We have a safe house further north, I think it would be good if the pack joins us and we all fight together. We will be stronger if we join forces. The safehouse is protected and we have humans, vampires, and even werewolves." "You have werewolves at your safehouse?" He asks. "Yes, a lot of them," I reply. "They could be from my pack." He says, he thinks, and I watch him wrestle with the decision. The rest of the werewolves have joined us outside the tent, he looks at them and says, "They could be part of us, we owe it to our families to see who is left." "I agree," Bruce says. "What will we do with Angelo, Gail could walk in her human form, but Angelo can't even walk." Hilda points out. "We carry him on that bed, we can all take turns, two at a time and Gail will soon regain her strength," I say. They talk amongst themselves and finally, the Alpha says, "Why should we trust you?" "Like you, I have lost it all to Frans, it is better to work together than fight our own battles and get in each other's way," I reply. "We will go with you." "Let's get ready then," I reply excited by my new alliance. We use the sheets of the bed to create a carry bed with two long branches, Bruce lowers Angelo, he doesn't look happy, but he says nothing. Caleb and Alpha carry him first, Bruce and Hilda carry Gail, she still isn't strong enough to walk. Iva and I scout the first part of the route then collect the rest. I know it is going to be a long walk, especially since we need to walk at a normal human pace. I look back at the wolves and I can see that they have lost just as much as I have, I hope that the safehouse can bring some joy to them. I hope that this alliance will help us all find the peace we are so desperate to find.
