ONE MONTH TO GO

398 Words
Dear Gavin, One month. That was all we had left before your little brother would finally arrive. Every morning before you left for school, you would come to me, gently hug my belly and kiss it, as though you were reminding the little one, “I’m already here. I’m your big brother.” And somehow, every time you did it, my heart melted a little more. You were becoming such a caring big brother even before you had a chance to hold him. By then, Mama had become sleepier. My body seemed to be asking for the bed more often than the world was asking for me. Sometimes I could lie there for what felt like the whole day. But I wanted to work. I wanted to get up, dress myself, go to work and feel useful. Resting felt strange when there was still so much I wanted to do. Yet my body had its own plans, and you were always there to notice. Sometimes you would look at me and ask, “Are you in contact with Daddy?” That question always made me smile. You knew Daddy was your superhero. 😄 Even though his work kept him far from us, in your little world, distance never meant absence. You knew he was there. You knew he cared. You knew he was still Daddy—the superhero who could somehow be present even from far away. And there were moments when I wished I could pack a small bag and go be with him for a while. I missed him. I wanted that comfort, that feeling of not having to carry everything alone. But then I looked at you. My prince charming. And I knew I couldn't just leave you behind. So I stayed. Perhaps motherhood is made of these little sacrifices nobody sees—the places you want to go but don't, the people you miss while holding on to the ones who need you, and the quiet decision to stay because your child is waiting for you. And through it all, there you were… kissing my belly, checking on Mama, asking about Daddy, and waiting patiently for your little brother. One month to go, my darling. Soon, our little family would change forever. And you, my firstborn, were already teaching me that sometimes the biggest hearts come in the smallest people. Love, Mama ❤️
