4 THE BROTHER YOU PRAYED FOR

Dear Gavin,

You already knew there was a little life growing inside me.

And somehow, you had already decided what you wanted.

“A little brother.”

You said it with such certainty, as though you had personally placed the order. 😂❤️

But then, perhaps noticing the way I worried about what the baby might be, you quickly added, “Any gender is okay, Mum.”

I knew what you were doing.

You were trying to comfort me.

At just your age, you were already thinking about my feelings before your own. And that little sentence stayed with me because it reminded me of the kind of heart you have—gentle, thoughtful, and full of love.

Then came the day of my clinic appointment.

You wanted to come with me. You wanted to hear everything, see everything, and probably ask a hundred questions. 😂

But you had school.

So I promised you that I would tell you every single detail when I came back.

And I meant it.

You went to school knowing that while you were busy learning, Mum was somewhere finding out more about the little person who would soon become part of our family.

Then came the news.

Another boy.

Your little brother.

The brother you had secretly hoped for.

I couldn't wait to tell you.

I wondered what your face would look like when you heard. I imagined the excitement, the questions, the plans you'd already have for him.

And in that moment, I realized something beautiful.

You weren't just waiting for a baby.

You were waiting for someone you could love.

Someone you could teach.

Someone who would one day call you big brother.

My sweet Gavin, one day you may not remember how eagerly you waited for this little boy. You may not remember the clinic appointment or the conversation that followed.

But I hope you always remember this:

Before your brother ever met you, you were already waiting for him with love.

And perhaps that's one of the greatest gifts you could ever give him.
