Rune Training

Darvin Talor "Among mages of equal power, battles happen and due to the equal standings it takes a lot of time for the battle to end and that is why when you are in a fight, if you cannot take down your opponent immediately then you should reserve your strength and wait for any opportunity you get. But for you two to get an equal opponent it would be easy for you to take them down." The principal said. "What do you mean?" I asked "Well you have two attributes which means you have double the mana you would have if you were attributed by a single element coupled with your skill making you stronger than the average mage." "And what about Aldin?" "That I cannot clearly tell so just focus on training for now." And we went back to practicing control over my rune by the end of the day I had an idea of how to control the area of effect but not the mana. We went back in the evening and immediately went to bed, and sadly Aldin was yet to wake. And it had been so until it was time for the battles of the first years. Calvin I went to the arena the following day for practice and after some time Marlow also joined me, he helped me train a lot and would even give me guidance. We would practice for part of the day until he had to leave. It went on until it was time for the first-year battles. "Thank you for the guidance you've shown me for these past couple of weeks," I said truly grateful for his help. "No need, this was fun; hopefully you won't forget me after using me like this." He said and soon after left. The next day would be the first years battle; I hope there was something interesting to watch. ****** Early on the morning of the battle all the students and the professors had gathered at the arena, all the other years apart from the first years were on the benches waiting for a show. The students had been grouped up and the first one was Ivan against another of his classmates. The principal came in front of all the students. "on this day we will witness who among the first years has taken in the most, when you all joined this institute almost all of you were of the same calibre, today shows how much you have grown, in these battles, you will be required to go on individual battles and only the strongest will be taken, do your best, we all hope for a good show today". He said and left. The referee was one of the professors, Dave Maelstrom. "Today we hope for a fair match, no artifacts or armour are allowed, only your magic will help you in this battle," He said." First round; Bela versus Dale" And to the stage came Bela and a boy with brown hair. When the boy saw who his opponent was he smirked remembering how weak she had been during their initial entrance exams. 'This is going to be easy.' He thought to himself. "Ready! Battle!" Dave said. At that moment Dale used earth from the ground to equip his arms with earth and was headed to hit Bela, believing that he could take her down with one hit, but Bela had other plans. After getting saved by Aldin Bela was able to get Professor Bloom's attention and her guidance as well and with diligence she was able to grow her mana core greatly and now four months later she could finally try a shot at the white dragon dorm. Just as Dale was about to punch her straight in the face Bela moved to the side and as he passed her she formed a whip of water and smacked him in the back. Dale turned wincing in pain and rushed at her and the next thing he saw was a water ball coming at him, it hit him in the face and he fell back. "Winner Bela." Professor Dave said as she walked out of the arena. The next battle took longer and so did the other 5 until it was finally time for Ivan's battle. He would be facing Ablator. When the battle commenced, Ablator, a wind magic user fired wind blades at Ivan, Ivan was able to evade a few but a few would inevitably hit him. And since he was on the defensive he was unable to fire his own attacks but after some time he gave up on the idea and fired out a fire ball, the boy who had been attacking just a moment ago jumped to the side to avoid getting hit. Ivan took this opportunity and got in closer and fired another one but lighter fires since these were his classmates, the hit landed and he was declared the winner. Other battles took place and the 14 winners proceeded to the next battle, for the 14th battle it was a direct ascension to the next round since Aisha had been kicked out. After an hour of rest the second round began and those who proceeded from round one got into battle, Ivan and Bela were both able to proceed and this time there were seven who proceeded which meant the seven who proceeded would all move to the next round. They went for their lunch after the second since it was already noon at the time. Over at the table of the white dragons, everyone was silent since there were two contenders at the table and nobody could voice out their support without offending the other. "Why are they so silent?" Bela asked Ivan to which he shook his head since he too was in the dark, wishing not to point out the obvious: everyone chose to remain silent but the silence was soon broken in the most unimaginable way.
