Goodnight My Love

3374 Words
The two days with Haleena went by faster than I thought possible as we enjoyed our company with Monopoly, Ludo, lots of scary movies, cans of Red Bull, ice-cream and bars of chocolates. Simply put, if I was meant to be on a diet my dietician would have had a heart attack at how much sugar I have basically inhaled. Once I had made everyone's breakfast and done the cleaning chores I was basically free for the rest of the day as my father-in-law had insisted the next two days were for me and Aneesah to relax and enjoy as we'd be living on take-aways to which I tried to protest but the response was a roll of eyes from my father-in-law and a 'shush' from my mother-in-law who smiled at us, “we are not that old that we can't enjoy a pizza and anyways me and your father-in-law are going out for dinner tonight” So that's how our days went and today me and Haleena were preparing to go home and I was so excited. My bag was packed and my handbag was ready as I placed them on the stairs joining the rest of them downstairs, “Oh Qasim, have you packed?” “What?” I stared at my father-in-law confused. “Well you have to go too beta, it's a cultural tradition to stay with your wife the first time, you can spend some time with them also” “Oh okay that sounds fun” I grinned at him making him smile back as he headed upstairs with me in tow to help him, “What do you wanna take?” “This, this and this, oh and this” he grabbed things out of his wardrobe handing them to me as I folded them and placed them in a carrier bag... what? My bag was full. He grabbed his toothbrush and his toiletries bag which made me laugh making him scowl in return. Once he was done we were back downstairs where everyone was sitting down talking about some relative, “Ready, Haleena?” “Yep bhai” Haleena stood up hugging my mother-in-law, “thank you for everything aunty and uncle, it was amazing” “It's okay, hope to see you around soon” She then hugged Aneesah, “so you won't come with us?” “Maybe next time” she sheepishly smiled at her Haleena scowled at her, “ I will force you then” “Why don't you come, Aneesah?” I asked her “Nah baj, I have some coursework to complete before school starts up, next time I'll join you, I promise.” “Are you sure?” “Yep let Qasim enjoy the pleasures of being their son-in-law this time” I laughed hugging her, “see you in a few days” “InshAllah” After saying our bye-byes, Abid reluctantly said his goodbyes to Haleena who was blushing as he stared at her oblivious to our eyes watching him, his parents had no clue what was going on or maybe they did but they ignored it. Hmm, that would be interesting. Getting into the car Haleena grabbed the aux which made me roll my eyes at her, “What? I don't wanna listen to you guys flirting” “Haha” I dead-panned The car ride to my parents home went in a blur of a mix of typical desi mehndi songs and Drake which made me scowl at the self-appointed DJ, seriously talk about weird. I was so excited as I pushed the button on the doorbell and waited for someone to open the door. I was bouncing lightly on my feet as I grinned. Qasim smiled at me but he wasn't feeling very positive about this stay as he thought he might get beaten up for some bizarre reason to which Haleena helped make him feel worse by teasing him. "Assalam - u -alaikum" Zohrah had opened the door holding her arms open for me to basically jump in and attack her. "I missed you!" "I missed you too monster" Smiling at me she kissed my forehead and then released me to allow Qasim in who was staring at me wide-eyed. Ah, right! I'm not that out going in front of him. "Salam Qasim, being looking after her properly?" Zohrah teased Qasim looked at me grinning, "Walaikam- a -salam. As best as I could" "Good good. Come in" He stepped in placing my overnight bag on the floor. He grabbed my hand as we made our way into the living room where everyone probably was. Walking into the room I could tears pricking my eyes as everyone smiled at me looking as normal as they could, as if I hadn't left over a week ago. I let go of Qasim's hand and went to meet my mother and father whom I hugged as hard as I could, tears slowly released as they wiped them off grinning at me as they took me in. I walked towards Naveed only to be glared at, guess someone's still upset. Smiling I stood in front of him as he glared harder at his phone, "Missed me brother?" "No" "Awh really cause I know I missed you" "Why would I miss you? Like I'd miss someone who'd wake me up screaming the chocolates finished or someone who'd fight with me to get ice-cream for them or someone who would make me smile almost instantly? Nah I didn't miss you" He finished looking at me tears glistening in his eyes. I smiled at him as he stood up hugging me tightly as if he'd never let me go again. "I missed you dida" "I missed you too man" "Good." He kissed my forehead and released me to meet Qasim who was standing by the door frowning slightly, "Alright Qasim?" "Yes, I'm good. You?" "I'm much better now. You don't look very good mate" he said noticing his frown "Oh... It's just... I hate seeing her cry" he mumbled making Naveed smile "Really?" "Yeah" "Oh damn." "What?" "You have fully gained my respect as her husband" Qasim grinned bringing his hand forward so Naveed could shake it but he smacked it away pulling him forward for a hug, Qasim smiling gratefully took the hug as I turned around to meet my nephew who was currently glaring at me. I smiled sheepishly turning to face my little munchkin. Holding my arms out I picked him up and placed a number of kisses on his face as he tried to push away. Releasing him from my hold I took a seat next to my mother but I felt so weird sitting in salwar kameez because I normally hardly ever wore traditional clothes at home unless there was a famiy gathering or something similar. I had this sudden urge to go upstairs and put on my one-direction onesie on but I was hesitant about everyone's reactions so I ignored my instincts. My mother patted me on my knees, "It's waiting on the bed, go ahead" I stared at her shocked she even knew what I was thinking. "Mothers know best" she winked I laughed, "Are you sure?" "Yes, go on. I'll send him upstairs in a minute" "Okay" Leaving Qasim beside my brother I stalked off upstairs to my bedroom, well my old bedroom, to become a child again. Opening the door I was surprised to see my belongings still in the same position as I left them and my images on the wall still there but new ones joined the already big group, a few of me and Qasim. I gazed at the images thankful for what I have. As I zipped the onesie on, my clothes and hijab forgotten on the bed there was a knock on the door,"Come in" Qasim entered the room closing it behind him as he placed our bags beside the bed. "Are you okay,Khadijah?" "Fine" "You sure" "Yep" He stepped closer towards me as he stroked the stray strands from my face as he kissed my forehead. "I'm happy I came here with you" "Why?" "I got to see you being normal" "I'm normally normal" "No you're quiet" "Oh" “I'm glad you had to come too” “Why?” he pulled me into a hug “Because it's the best of both worlds” “Really? Hannah Montana?” “Yes.. Hannah Montana was a legend of her time” “Whatever” “Don't 'whatever' me” “Let's go downstairs now” I stepped out of his embrace tugging on his arm just to be pulled back into a hug “But do we have to? Can't we stay like this?” “No darling, now come on.. I have a plan.” “Plan?” “Don't worry your precious little mind about it!” I muttered pulling him out of the room Making our way to the living room we took a detour as I grabbed Qasim's hand making him follow my lead into the kitchen, placing a finger on my lips I rummaged through the drawer known for chocolates. Finding my weapons I placed them in my pocket and grinned at Qasim who was shaking his head silently laughing at my stealthiness or lack of... Walking into the room I took a seat next to my mum placing my head on her lap, Qasim sat beside me so I put my feet in his lap. My mum smacked my forehead gesturing for me to sit properly but Qasim shrugged saying it was okay so grinning at mum I stayed in that position. "Khadijah..." "Yes brother" "I hope you're sharing them" "I know I haven't been here for nearly a week but you're still so silly to think that" He turned to face me grinning evilly, "Get here you little brat" "Never" I got off my mother and scooted closer to Qasim. "Qasim" "Yes" "You're my husband, save me" He looked at me confused as Naveed lunged for me making me squeal and jump onto Qasim who was looking bewildered. My mother laughing shook her head at him, "The chocolates, my dear boy" "Oh" He grinned as he understood, holding onto me he sat back waiting for Naveed to reach us. Once Naveed stood in front of us he stood up placing me behind him as I rushed to the sofa behind Naveed whilst Qasim distracted him. I jumped on Naveed's back making him double over as I winked at Qasim giving him a high-five. I slapped Naveed's face lightly mocking him as I laughed. I made him walk to everyone so I could hand everyone one piece of chocolate and when everyone received one, "You may put me down peasant" He dropped me next to Qasim which basically means I fell on him as his arms caught me holding me in place, I stayed sitting there for a second but then quickly jumped off sitting beside him. Throwing a chocolate at Naveed I laughed at his glare as he sat beside Zohrah who was laughing as well. "You know, Dida, it feels like you haven't even left" "Doesn't it feel amazing?" I teased "No. Go away. Qasim just take her along today" He replied laughing "No, not today. I'll let her stay tonight" Qasim played along making me scowl at him as I bit into the chocolate. After a few more minutes of teasing me, my dad told us to shut up as he concentrated on the Asian drama that was playing on TV. So we spent a good half an hour watching crap and then my savior came. The front door banged open as someone dropped something and their heels click-clacked their way to the living room. It was Humaira with two boxes of pizza and a bag of goodies it appeared to be. Jumping off the sofa I waited for her to drop the pizzas somewhere as I jumped into her arms making her squeal as she hugged me back, "I missed you man" "I missed you Ray" She groaned at the nick-name I gave her making me smirk as I let go of her and jumped down to my feet which also allowed me to acknowledge the fact that she hadn't come alone. Ismail and Abdullah had come along with her making me blush as I tugged my hijab tighter around my face as I waved sheepishly. They laughed in return walking in to place the bags they were holding onto the table and to meet my parents and Qasim. I grinned at Humaira who still had her arms around me, "Oh, by the way Khadijah, I have something to tell you" "What?" She grabbed my arm pulled me out of the room and into the kitchen where she jumped onto the counter making me join her as she blushed opening her mouth and closing it repeatedly, basically she looked like a fish. "Spill it fishie" "Uhm... My parents are fixing my rishta with Ismail." "Really? Oh my god, you're getting married" I gushed She blushed nodding shyly. "Oh my god that's awesome" "Thank you" I grinned at her, "We're finally getting our lives together, aren't we?" "Yeah" "I'm glad. Remember how we always dreamed of being married to the guy we loved and how we'd have children and how we'd live happily ever after." She laughed nodding. "I think we're getting there. In Sha Allah" "In Sha Allah" She smiled at me once again before jumping off the counter pulling me with her, "I've come for a movie and food which I have so graciously supplied so I suggest we use our time wisely." "Are you not staying?" I asked pouting "No babe, Ismail's parents are coming tomorrow but they're around ours at the moment so we can go late" "Oh" "I'll stay the next time you come" "You better! Is Ismail staying for the movie?" "I should hope so, I've wanted to eat some pizza ever since we collected it." I blushed as I realized he heard me asking but I had in the upper hand right now. "Oh you can stay, I have no problems but do make sure you get your beauty sleep when you get home" I emphasized on the word home making him blush. I ginned at the blushes visible on their face as I stalked off to sit beside Qasim who was talking to Naveed. As I sat there watching Naveed and Qasim laugh at something Qasim had found on f*******: I realized just like he was shocked that I fit in so easily with his family, I was shocked with the way he was so easily bonding with everyone in my family. He looked down at me when he realized I was staring but I smiled at him which he returned grabbing my hand kissing my knuckles and putting my hand back in my lap before anyone saw but he was too late as Zohrah began gushing like a maniac. "Awwh, you guys are so cute" I blushed looking down at my onesie gazing at Zayn Malik's face that was printed onto my knee (onesie), as Qasim coughed scratching his neck as blood rushed to his cheeks making him look adorable. "Leave my husband alone" I smirked at Zohrah Smirking back she replied, "Oh, protective huh?" I laughed, "You chill!" "Oh no tell me now. Why so protective?" She teased Blushing I looked away facing Qasim who was looking down at me with a smirk and a weird look in his eyes. "What?" I questioned Shaking his head, "Nothing." "Khadijah, why so protective, honey?" Zohrah teased in a sing-song voice. Scowling at her I stuck my tongue out at her as she just winked and laughed, "Zohrah" My dad said "Yes dad" She replied still laughing "Leave the two alone and focus on your own husband" He teased her laughing She blushed as she looked back at Naveed who was watching her smirking, she smacked his arm and he laughed making her scowl. "Leave me alone" She scowled at Naveed "Awwh. Not so lovey-dovey are we?" I teased finally getting back at her Naveed looked at me laughing as he placed an arm around her, "We're doing good on our lovey-dovey front darling sister" I scowled at him, "Behave" "You asked" He innocently answered Ignoring him I went back to gazing at my husband who was staring at me smiling showing his pearly-whites. "There's too many couples in here" Haleena complained from her spot on the floor as she had given up her spot on the sofa to Abdullah and Ismail, Humaira was sat beside her. "Poor you" I teased "Okay. I'm hungry, can we eat?" Naveed asked getting straight to the point "You guys eat, we're going sleep." My dad said yawning as he left us to wreck the living-room, my mother close behind him. I stood up to say goodnight and the two of them gave me a kiss on my forehead and walked out leaving us all jumping onto the sofas so we could watch the movies Humaira and her little clique bought along. They had bought Ted, Bad Neighbours and Titanic. After a few screams of protests from the males we decided to put Ted on as we began to consume the pizza Humaira bought along. So I spent the first night back after a week away from my family watching comedy films with pizza and chocolate with the people I love. Humaira, Ismail and Abdullah left at 2 o'clock (yes, in the middle of the night), Haleena had gone sleep an hour before they left with promises to ring Humaira later on the next day and Naveed and Zohrah had gone to bed as soon as they left... I think they're getting too old for all-nighters.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Did you have a nice time?" I said as Qasim settled into the bed "Yes, everyone's nice and I had fun" "Good." "You know..." "Hmm..." "I love you" "I love you too" "Khadijah..." "Yes" "Do you ever feel angry?" "About what?" "You had to leave everyone because of me." "No because it's part of life and Allah really blessed me so I'm good." "I really am lucky to have you, you know." "Oh I know, by the way Qasim..?." I smirked as I kissed his cheek "Yes?" "Why were you looking weird at me before?" "Before.." He trailed off thinking about it, "When?" "When Zohrah was calling me protective?" "Oh." He didn't say anything and I stayed silent as his breath hit my forehead as he moved closer to me wrapping his arms around me. "Oh?" "I was just shocked" "Shocked about what?" "Shocked about the fact that you're protective" "Why wouldn't I be?" "Because I'm a prick and I'm so overprotective over you and you..." He paused sighing, "You return the feelings." "Qasim." "Yes?" "Don't do this to us" "Do what?" "Think we're not good for each other because then we'll actually end up believing that even if it's not true so please don't." "I just know I'm not worthy enough for you" "Please Qasim" I placed a hand on his face well on his chest and searched for his face as it was dark. I could feel his eyes flutter close as his eyelashes softly hit my fingers, placing my hand on his cheek I moved my face towards his and kissed his cheek. "Please don't" "I'm not doing it on purpose Khadijah. It's just true" "Qasim, a lot of things are true but that is not. So just shut up." He sighed again. Honestly the guy sighed more than a drama queen! "Why?" "Because." "That's your grand reason" "Yes. And I love you. And I'll never leave you. And I just don't care about this little belief you've stuck in your head about how I don't deserve you because that is utter bullshit. And I'm tired. And so are you. So go sleep." "I love you Khadijah." I grunted in response making him laugh as he kissed my forehead once again before hugging me and then turning to his side. "Goodnight Deeds" "Goodnight my love"
