Three Idiots & Me

4443 Words
There were three days left until my wedding day and I was parading around Manchester with stupid people; Haleena, Aneesah, Humaira and Abid. Qasim was supposed to be with us but he cancelled last minute because he had to do some family related thingamajig for the wedding. I think he had to collect his aunty from wherever she lived to come so she could stay for the wedding. I had done everything for the wedding I could do. Everything was done from the pins in my hijab being selected to my luggage packed for me to take with me when I go to Qasim's house. That's how prepared my family were to send me off. It was like they were excited honestly. But to be honest so was I. We all just had dinner at Nawaabs courtesy of Qasim's credit card and we were now en route to a desert place. We had all come in one car because well, common sense! Abid had only come because we needed a "man" to look after us according to our parents and Naveed was definitely not coming. So he was our only choice. He was glad about it though because he was being a typical guy and kept on taunting us on the fact that we couldn't drive this far and also because he apparently loves annoying us. This was the first time Humaira and Abid met but they hit it off almost instantly because they were both weirdos and weirdos usually got on well. Right now I was trying to ignore all four of them because they wanted me to ring Qasim and put it on speaker because apparently it would be funny according to them. We were walking in the dark; it was about seven O' clock. We had got to Manchester at one o'clock and after walking into shopping malls and just basically annoying Abid by trying almost everything we could and asking for his opinion we went for lunch/dinner. It was actually quite fun even though Abid kept making doe-eyes at every outfit Haleena tried on like come on, she didn't pull all them off. We were just acting like silly children with no care in the world to be honest. We were at the park before deciding to get deserts and honestly I will never let my children near Abid or any of them to be honest. They bloody terrorised the poor children by screaming like idiots so they could get on the swings. I just sat on the bench laughing at how Abid was pushing Aneesah like a nice older brother while all of them were on the swings. After Abid got bored of being a brother he came to sit next to me no doubt to annoy me. "Alright baj." "Yep, great. You?" "Same. It's been fun huh?" "Yes it actually has even though we bought you along!" "Ha-ha! Any-ways. You ready to get married? Three days left man!" "Uh... Ish!" "What do you mean, ish? You're not planning on doing a runner, are you?" "Do I look like I'm going to do that?" "Never know!" I punched him. "I'm not so shut up." "So what's wrong?" "I don't know. What if Qasim changes and turns into a prick? What if I mess up? What if something happens?" "Okaay. Qasim won't change, trust me. The man smiles like an i***t every time your name is mentioned. You won't mess up. You're flipping Wonder Woman. I swear the amount of things I've heard about you... I would probably end up marrying you if Qasim wasn't already taking you and obviously if the age wasn't so different. You're really old you know!" He teased, "Trust me, you're both perfect for each other!" "Thank you." "Shall I tell you something?" "Go on." I urged. "If something ever did happen, I'd help you like I would help Aneesah even if Qasim is my brother because I actually see you as a sister and I respect and love you like one. If Qasim ever did f**k up which I can guarantee 99.9% he won't, I would help you first before even looking at Qasim." I hugged him because I swear, that was cute! "Awh!! I don't want to cry now! Stop being so cute. Thank you though. And you know what?" "What?" "I'll help you with Haleena!" He blushed deep and cleared his throat, "There's nothing to help with. She's just my sister-in-law's sister." "Yeah... and the person you've been crushing on." "Nah, leave it." "Nope. My only problem is I don't want you to break her heart and this better not be a 'be my girlfriend' thing. " "It's not a girlfriend thing. I wanna have what you have with Qasim with her. And I don't wanna break her heart because damn she has mine." "Oh." "Yeah oh." He was looking at the floor frowning. I felt bad for pushing it but she is my sister too. "Abid?" "Hmm." "Why do you wanna get married?" "Cause I want kids, I wanna be in love. I wanna do it all with the right person and baj, she is the right person." "You sure?" "Yeah." "What if you hurt her?" "I swear if I ever hurt her she can beat me up and you can do anything but I'm definite I'm not going to hurt her." He looked up and was now staring at Haleena on the swing who was laughing at something Aneesah just said. "Just... just look at her." "What about her? "She's so f*****g beautiful man." "Alright Abid. Calm your hormones. Have you spoken to her?" "No. What do you think I am? An i***t? I respect her so I want to ask Qasim and you first before doing anything." "Ask us what?" "Ask you lot if I did want to marry her..." He looked at me for a brief second then looked back away at Haleena, "If I could and if you guys think I'm worth it for her at all." "Do you not think you're worth it?" "f**k no. Do I look like I'm worth a girl like that?" "A girl like that?" "A girl who doesn't know how beautiful she is. A girl that helps people without even realising it. You know ages ago when I came to see your dad to organise something she was outside helping an old lady carry her bags and seriously she didn't know I was looking and she had this look in her eyes... A look of respect and I don't know something deep. She looked so innocent and I don't want to ruin that look." "You really like her, huh?" "Yes a lot." "Love?" "No. Yes. I don't know." "Awh bless you man. You're so cute." "Yeah yeah. Come on" "Alright." We both stood up and nodded at the girls; they groaned but got off the swings. "You better be getting me off these slides for desert!" Haleena complained. "Shut up, Queen. Let's go! We're going home." I replied "Nah, come on. Where shall we go then?" Abid said. I started laughing at how he couldn't even say no to her. "Let's play a game" Humaira suggested "Truth or dare" "Okay." I said. After a few dares like walking up to a stranger and asking them stupid questions like where they got some item of clothing from? I can proudly say I didn't have to do any of those but I spoke too soon. When I heard their dare I began walking away and shaking my head. I'm not going to ring him! Do I look suicidal? If I ring him, he'll say something that will get them on my case all the way home and forever into the night. "Come on Khadijah." "Don't be a spoil-sports Dida" "Come on Baj" "Fine fine, but you can't talk." "Yay" Ringing him and praying he wouldn't pick up, we got some seats at Creams. Unfortunately he did pick up. Groaning I put it on speaker. "Assalam - u -alaikum" "Walaikam- a -salam." I replied "How's your day been Khadijah?" "It's been nice." "Where are you at?" After a few gestures from all of them to say home I replied, "Home" "Yeah?" "Yeah" "Was it fun?" I looked at all their faces and smiling at their stupid facial gestures, "Yeah, it's actually been fun!" "That's good. You miss me or have I just been remembered now?" "I... No, I missed you" "Really?" Ignoring the idiots around me I spoke freely not caring any more because honestly... I did miss Qasim and I need this conversation because well he's good to talk to. "Yes, a lot." "I knew you did." He teased. "Shut up. You missed me too don't worry. I know you did." "I won't even deny that" "Aha. I knew it." "Khadijah?" "Yeh?" "What's wrong?" "Nothing, why?" "No, something is wrong. You sound worried." "No... Yes... Ish!" "I can tell. What's wrong?" "Erm..." I looked at everyone, Abid took the phone off me and put mute on so he could speak without Qasim hearing him. "You can go over there and sit, talk to him properly. Here" He handed his head-phones to me so I could talk to him properly. "Thank you." I grinned gratefully. He smiled back. I walked off to another table in the far corner so I could resume my conversation. Inserting the headphones I took him off silent and I heard the last words of something Qasim said, "... Please tell me." "Okay." "Good!" "Basically... I'm just really scared that... Don't say anything until I'm finished okay?" "Okay." "Good and basically I was just really scared that you might change after we're married into a real prick and be like those typical husbands that believe women should stay in the kitchen and obviously I want to help your mother in every way and I won't let her work for no reason at all because I see her like my own mum but I don't wanna be treated like I'm useless." "You're not..." Ignoring him I carried on speaking. "I want you to stay like how you are right now... You know, texting me all the time and missing me and loving me and just needing me for being me. I don't want to change into those ladies who only interact with their husband when he decides he wants to look at his wife” "But..." Ignoring him yet again I continued speaking. "Okay? And I don't wanna mess up. What if I do something really stupid? I'm just really scared." "But." "Shush I'm not done." "Then I told Abid all this and then he told me how you're always smiling every time my name is mentioned 'like an i***t' it was said. He also called me Wonder Woman and even told me if I wasn't marrying you and I wasn't older he probably would want to marry me... I'm done now." "Okay, jheeze you speak a lot." "Thanks." I laughed. "Okaay, woman. I won't change. This is me. An i***t that loves you a lot. I won't ever change to one of those idiots. You're adorably cute for even being worried about these things because trust me they're nothing. I'm always going to need you every night to make me smile and you, woman. Oh god. You. I love you so much. You messing up? Impossible, like Abid said you're Wonder Woman, my Wonder Woman. And nobody's taking you away from me at all." "Uhuh?" "Yes. I love you Khadijah." "I love you too Qasim. Qasim?" "Aren't you scared about anything? About us, I mean?" "Khadijah, I'm scared about lots of things." "Like?" "Like how you might wake up one day and see me properly, a man who ain't worth it. Like how I might mess up. Like how I might lose you." "Oh Qasim." "Hmm." "You won't ever change in my eyes even if you do be a t**t sometimes. You're always going to be worth it for me. You won't mess up, if you do or even if I do, I'm sure we'll help each other. And you won't lose me ever, not if I can help it any ways." "You sure?" "Yeah" "Good" "Good" "Oh Khadijah I really do love you" "I love you too lad" "Lad?" "Yes lad" "Okay ladette" "No not ladette soz mate. I'm going to go now okay" "Okay, and tell Abid he's an i***t for putting me on speaker" "Huh?" "Do you think I didn't clock on? Oh honey, I realized when you paused to tell me that you're at home." "Oh. You're smart" "I know" "Ha-ha don't be big-headed about it." "I'm not. I'm just glad you know I am." "Yeah yeah. Bye." "Bye. Wait..." "Yeah?" "You gonna ring me tonight?" "Why?" "Because you love me?" "That's not a good enough reason" "Because I want you too?" "I might" "Okay. Bye. Go have your deserts, I'm guessing." "What the hell! How do you know?" I started looking around because he has got to be around here somewhere if he knows where I am. "No Khadijah. Stop looking around. I'm not with you even though I know just how desperately you want me to be." He teased cockily. "Puh-lease. Go away. I'm not looking around!" "Suree." "Yes." "I'm joking. I figured you were at a deserts place because I asked Aneesah about an hour ago where she is at and she said you might go for deserts in a bit." "Ahh. Cheeky!" "No. Not really. Maybe" "Aha. Okay. I've got to go now. They're getting angry. Think they want to order now." "Okay. Bye" "Buh-bye." I ended the call because seriously I'm never going to be that type of girl who says "You put it down" because no. That's just too cringe-y for my liking. Walking back to the table we were sitting at, I grinned at their scowling faces. Honestly, it was funny because they're old enough to be accepted as adults but they're all so immature. I mean seriously, they were on swings a while ago but so was I... Hmm, guess I'm immature too! "Abid..." "Yeh?" "Qasim says you're a t**t for putting him on speaker!" "Huh? How does he know? Why did you te..." "Oh shut up. I didn't tell him. He's smart enough and you..." I pointed at Aneesah She looked at me terrified. "What? What did I do?" "You practically told him we were at a deserts place" "Huh, when did I do that?" "Think about it." I gave her a second and I guess she understood how when she smiled sheepishly... "Oh crap. Sorry lads. I told him where we were going when he texted me about an hour ago" Abid scowled at her and she laughed. "Oh chill, Abid. He ain't gonna do anything and even if he does. This one..." She pointed at me, grinning like a child, "... will save us by saying ' Oh Qasim... I love you Qasim'" "Ha-ha. No." They were all laughing and I just scowled at them, throwing Abid's headphones at him. "Okay. Children behave! Let's order." Humaira said to the immature gits and effectively stopped them from teasing me. After we ate, we got into the car glad to be going home after such a long day. Abid dropped me, Humaira and Haleena home first. Once we got in I rushed upstairs to get in my One Direction onesie so I could relax while Haleena and Humaira were dawdling at the door talking. Umar came stumbling into my room when I just did my zip up. I grinned at his cheeky face; he put his hands out indicating he didn't come in for no reason but to be picked up. I picked him and threw him in the air a few times catching him safely. Then I went to my wardrobe with him safely on my hip and put my finger on my lips which he copied whispering "shh." I laughed at how his mouth shaped an "O" as he looked at me acting stealthily when I took a chocolate out and handed it to him. He smiled like he won the lottery. I grinned at his reaction and how he tried to grasp at the packet trying with all his will to open the packet so he could have the chocolate. I pried it out of his hand and opened and passed it back to him. He smiled and was about to take a bit then he shook his head in the most adorable way and then he shoved it into my mouth. The child was trying to share! I took a small bit and gave it back. Walking out of my room with him munching happily on the chocolate I switched my light off and went back downstairs and went to the living room where my family were sitting around watching something. I waved at everyone and they nodded or waved in response. I sat down next to Humaira who was already changed, the girl practically lives here. They were watching some Asian movie but I wasn't focusing as Umar was tugging at my hair and unzipping my onesie every two seconds and I was tickling him in response. After a while Umar crawled away from me to Naveed who had his phone out and was waving it at Umar trying to make him jealous. My phone started vibrating and seriously I had half a mind to ignore it but I was just too curious so I looked at it and it was a notification from w******p and I noticed I had been added to a group called "Baj Save Me!!" and the group consisted of; me, Abid and Qasim. I laughed at what the group was called, I mean seriously!! They were both cussing each other out. Abid: Oh shut up Qasim Qasim: Don't make me f*****g punch u Abid: Go on then lemme see how strong u r Qasim: Abid. Abid: Yes papa Qasim: don't piss me off Me: loooool omds Qasim: It's not funny Abid: yo baj don't laugh Me: why not? Abid: cause he wants 2 beat me up! Qasim: I will beat u up u knw Abid: try it Me: don't u live 2getha Qasim: yes Me: so why r u textin each other Qasim: the i***t is hiding in his room Me: where are you Abid: papa's outside innit sitting on the floor talking to his fiancé Me: ohh lool Qasim: NOT FUNNY Abid: I AGREE BAJ NOT FUNNY. Me: awh qasim u angry with me? Qasim: no Me: u sure Qasim: yeh Abid: can u 2 stop flirtin k thanks Me: hb no abid Me: I love u qasim Qasim: ily2 baby I was laughing inside my head, this was bloody hilarious. Abid: URRRGH, STOP ALREADY BAJ! Me: Okay Qasim: why dyu call her baj? Abid: cause I respect her and she's my sister Qasim: u dog wb me I'm ur brother and u don't respect me Abid: soz m8 Qasim: abid. she's wonder woman yeh? Abid: yehh. Me: thanks lads Me: Qasim leave him alone Me: go to ur room Qasim: why Me: go on Qasim: fine :| Me: love you Qasim: I knw u do Abid: thanks baj Me: its alright Putting my phone down I looked up to see Humaira and Haleena staring at me curiously. Oh dear. Maybe I smiled too much. I just passed my phone to both of them to look at which was probably a mistake because Haleena started typing away furiously. Oh dear. She handed my phone back to me after a few minutes, looking at it I realized she sent Qasim's number to herself and she also was talking in the group. I began reading it. Me (aka Haleena): so abid Abid: yeh baj Me: wb haleena Abid: wb her? Me: y haven't u added her in this convo Abid: cause Me:cause what Abid: idek Me: dyu talk to her? Abid:no Me: dyu want to? Abid: a lot Me: y don't u Abid: cause Qasim: leave the poor lad alone Me: fine fine I'll leave him alone Abid: jheeze man u get me blushing so quickly. Me: ur blushing? Abid:maybe leave me alone Me:okay I looked up at Haleena who was blushing herself and noticed Humaira was laughing shaking her head at her as if she was scolding her which caused me to laugh. It was like the domino effect because as soon as I began laughing I caught Umar's attention and he started laughing which made Haleena laugh. It was pretty funny for no apparent reason. After a while we stopped laughing and apologized because Naveed and Zohrah were looking at us with scowls like damn sorry. When the commercials started running I ran out of the room to the kitchen so I could stock up on my secret ammo. CHOCOLATE! I stuffed all the chocolate I could into my pocket and walked back into the room like I didn't run out like a madwoman. I just grinned at everyone's not so surprised faces because they so knew what I went to get, it was a habit. "You better be planning on giving me one" Naveed threatened "And who do you think you are?" I responded looking at him like he was stupid for even suggesting I give him a chocolate Everyone was smiling because they knew this would turn into something violent in less than a minute. Harmless violence though! "Go on Dida!" He pleaded with me, the oh so great one. "Muahaha, you're so silly for even suggesting me to give you one." I grinned evilly sitting down like an evil maniac. He stood up taking hesitant steps towards me, "Dida..." "Naveed take one more step forwards and I'll punch you." He grinned, "Show me what you got lady" "That's it." I stood up on the sofa and jumped onto the sofa behind him. He tried grabbing me but failed. He pulled at my pocket, scratching his hand so he couldn't acquire the goodies in my pocket. He began tickling me which made my legs react absurdly but cleverly kicking him in the stomach, he bent down groaning rubbing his stomach. If I was a nice sister I probably would stop and check if he was okay but he's smart and a good cheater so I ignored his acting and jumped on his back and pulled a chocolate out unwrapping it above his head, Mum and dad were shaking their heads at our childish antics but we were always going to be children but obviously to a reasonable extent. They didn't mind because in front of guests and in public we were well-behaved. I broke my chocolate into half and stuffed one half into his mouth and threw the other half to Zohrah. Taking two more chocolates out I threw one at Humaira, "share!" I ordered. "Catch dad" he caught the second chocolate and halved it for himself and my mother. I grinned at Umar who was staring at me like I'm amazing. I took another one and gave him one bar and bit my half. I jumped off Naveed's back who turned around to tickle me but I caught his hands in time, "Uhuh be grateful I let you go lad." He laughed and accepted his defeat. I sat back down sighing in satisfaction as Humaira and Haleena looked at me like I was an i***t. "Do not stare at me, you fools." I said creepily without looking at them. "Oh great one, we were just admiring your beauty" Humaira said playing along. "You are a peasant; you do not stare at me unless asked" "I apologise oh great one" she bowed laughing. "Oh great one shut up so I can watch" Naveed said. I threw the closest pillow at his head, "watch your language peasant" He flipped the bird at me. "Peasant" "K mate" he said still facing the TV. I just sighed, oh well. Can't win with everyone. I looked at my phone and saw I got a few messages and a missed call from Qasim. Qasim: lad... Qasim: I miss you Qasim: and I love you I smiled at his messages and showed Humaira. She grinned and whispered "go on ring him" I shook my head and gestured to everyone. She grinned slyly. "Okay, we are going upstairs to watch Channing Tatum, see ya later lads and uncle and aunty." She grabbed Haleena who looked clueless, "We ar...?" "Ah bupbup. Don't interrupt me. Get up the stairs now." Humaira interrupted her before anyone realised. Walking out of the room calmly while my heart was beating wildly in my chest was pretty hard. As soon as I was out of the living room's doorway I ran up the stairs and dived into my bed hitting the light switch ringing Qasim. He picked up after two rings. "Assalam- u -alaikam" "Walaikam- a -salam" "Alright lad?" "I'm good lad how bout yourself?" "I'm okay. Khadijah?!" "Yes Qasim" "I miss you, a lot." "Do you really?" "Yes, it's been over a week since I've seen you!" "Soo?" I dragged out the 'O' "Sooo... I miss you lad." "I miss you too" Haleena and Humaira walked in sitting on the floor grabbing my laptop, I'm guessing they're going to be watching a movie or something. "Lad." "Yes lad" "You can't call me lad when we're married" "And why not?" "Because!" "Shut up Qasim. I can call you whatever I want." "You know what?" "What?" "You actually can if every time you say something mean I get a hug" "What do I get if you're mean to me?" "I won't ever be mean to you" "What if you do?" "I won't but if I ever do you can have whatever you want" "You sure?" "100%" "Good lad" "Only for you. What are you doing?" "I'm in bed and Humaira and Haleena are on the laptop so..." "So what? Are you threatening me?" "Maybe" "What can they do to me?" "A lot of things." "Uhuh suree" he laughed dragging the sound out. "Shush" "Okay" "Okay” "Alright, off you go." "Where am I going”? "Go chill out with the girls. You'll be here with me soon enough." "You sure?" "Yeh. Night Khadijah." "Night Qasim" "I love you" "Love you too" I ended the phone call and slid off the bed crawling next to Humaira leaning my head on her shoulder so I could watch too. We were watching 'The Vow' and I saw 'The Fault In Our Stars' nearby too. Tears are predicted for tonight.
