IN LOVE WITH THE DEVIL PART 9

In Love With the Devil — Part 9 Silver rain continued falling over Shanghai long after the battle ended. The ruined streets slowly healed beneath the glow of the Flame of Eternity. Cracked buildings restored themselves piece by piece while terrified citizens emerged from hiding, staring upward at the peaceful sky they thought they would never see again. For the first time in centuries— Heaven was quiet. Hell was quiet. Even the Void had become still. The silver-haired man who was once the Void Emperor stood silently near the edge of the rooftop. Without the endless darkness surrounding him, he no longer looked terrifying. Only lonely. Ancient chains still wrapped around his wrists and shoulders, remnants of the prison that had held him for thousands of years. Lin Yue watched him carefully. “You’re free now,” she said softly. The man lowered his silver eyes. “Freedom feels unfamiliar.” Han walked beside Lin Yue, his black wings slowly fading back into shadows behind him. Though the battle had ended, weakness remained visible across his face. The Void’s power was still inside him. Hurting him. Lin Yue noticed immediately. “You’re injured.” Han gave a faint smile. “I’ve survived worse.” “That’s not comforting.” A quiet laugh escaped him. The silver-haired man observed them silently. Then he asked the question neither heaven nor hell had ever dared to ask. “Why would you save me?” Lin Yue looked surprised. “Because you were suffering.” The man seemed unable to understand the answer. “You feared me.” “Yes,” she admitted honestly. “But pain can turn anyone into a monster.” Han’s expression darkened slightly at her words. Lin Yue reached for his hand immediately. “And sometimes,” she added softly, “people become monsters because nobody tried to save them sooner.” The silver-haired man became silent again. The Eternal Judge slowly descended from the heavens above, surrounded by fading golden light. The armies of heaven stepped back respectfully. Even the demons lowered their heads. The Judge looked toward the former Void Emperor. “The prison no longer exists,” it declared. The silver-haired man closed his eyes briefly. “So you have come to destroy me instead.” “No.” That single word stunned everyone. The Eternal Judge turned its countless glowing eyes toward Lin Yue and Han. “The Flame of Eternity has chosen a new balance.” Shen Wuyin stepped forward immediately. “But if the Void remains free—” “He is no longer the Void Emperor,” the Judge interrupted calmly. The silver-haired man slowly looked upward. The Judge continued: “He has remembered what existence truly means.” Silence filled the rooftop. Then, for the first time in creation’s history, the Eternal Judge bowed slightly toward a mortal girl and a fallen devil. “Balance has been restored through compassion rather than fear.” Lin Yue blinked in shock. Han looked equally stunned. The Judge raised one glowing hand toward the heavens. “The war between realms ends tonight.” Golden light spread across the sky instantly. The heavenly soldiers slowly lowered their weapons. Below them, the demons retreated peacefully into the shadows without resistance. The King of the Underworld stared upward bitterly. “So this is how hell loses.” Han looked toward him quietly. “No,” he said. “This is how suffering ends.” The King remained silent for a long moment. Then, unexpectedly, he laughed softly. “You truly became something strange, Han Lucifer.” Han smirked faintly. “I’ve heard worse.” The King’s expression softened slightly before he disappeared into darkness alongside the remaining demons. One by one, the heavenly armies vanished too. Soon only a few people remained on the rooftop. Lin Yue. Han. Shen Wuyin. And the silver-haired man. The city below slowly returned to life. Police sirens echoed in the distance while morning sunlight finally began appearing beyond the horizon. After endless darkness— Dawn had arrived. Lin Yue smiled weakly. “We survived.” Han looked toward the rising sun silently. For centuries, daylight had always felt cold to him. But now it felt warm. Alive. Then suddenly— Han staggered violently. Lin Yue caught him immediately. “Han!” Black cracks spread across his neck like burning shadows beneath his skin. The silver-haired man’s expression changed instantly. “The Void corruption.” Shen Wuyin frowned. “He absorbed too much power during the battle.” Lin Yue’s heart tightened in panic. “What does that mean?” No one answered immediately. Which terrified her more. Finally, Han sighed quietly. “It means my body is breaking apart.” “No.” Lin Yue shook her head desperately. “No, no, we just saved the world! You are not dying now!” Han gently touched her face. His fingers already felt colder. “The darkness inside me was never truly stable.” The silver-haired man stepped closer slowly. “The Void recognizes him as its vessel now.” Shen Wuyin’s eyes widened slightly. “If the corruption spreads completely…” Han finished the sentence calmly. “I become the next Void Emperor.” Silence crushed the rooftop. Lin Yue stared at him in horror. “No…” Han lowered his gaze. “The cycle will begin again.” The silver-haired man suddenly spoke. “There may still be a way.” Everyone looked toward him immediately. He lifted one hand toward Han slowly. “The Void cannot be destroyed. But it can be shared.” Lin Yue frowned. “What does that mean?” The silver-haired man’s silver eyes softened slightly. “It means he does not have to carry eternity alone.” Before anyone could react, the man placed his hand against Han’s chest. Silver light exploded outward instantly. Han gasped painfully as shadows poured from his body into the air like smoke. The former Void Emperor closed his eyes tightly, absorbing the darkness back into himself. Lin Yue watched helplessly. “You’ll die!” The man smiled faintly. “No.” His chains slowly began glowing again. “I was born from the Void.” The darkness around him stabilized peacefully. “This burden was always mine to carry.” Han stared at him silently. “Why help me?” The silver-haired man looked toward the sunrise quietly. “Because someone finally showed me kindness.” The silver light faded slowly. The black cracks vanished from Han’s body completely. Lin Yue nearly collapsed from relief. Han looked down at his restored hands in shock. The former Void Emperor stepped backward toward the edge of the rooftop. The ancient chains around him tightened again gently, almost willingly this time. Lin Yue’s chest hurt unexpectedly. “You’re leaving.” The man nodded. “The Void still requires a guardian.” “But you’ll be alone again.” For the first time, the silver-haired man smiled softly. A real smile. “No.” He looked toward them both. “Now I know someone in this universe remembers me.” The morning wind moved gently across the rooftop. And then— The former Void Emperor disappeared into silver light. Gone. Peace settled across Shanghai at last. Han slowly turned toward Lin Yue. Neither of them spoke for a moment. Then Lin Yue suddenly punched his arm. Han blinked. “Ow.” Tears filled her eyes immediately afterward. “You scared me to death!” Han laughed softly despite himself. A real laugh. Warm. Human. Lin Yue wrapped her arms tightly around him. And this time— He held her back without fear.
