IN LOVE WITH THE DEVIL PART 10

In Love With the Devil — Part 10 Three months passed after the night heaven, hell, and the Void nearly destroyed the world. Shanghai returned to normal. Or at least, normal enough for humans who never learned the truth. News reports blamed the disaster on a mysterious storm and unexplained earthquakes. Buildings rebuilt quickly. Streets became crowded again. Neon lights returned to the city. People moved on. But some things could never truly return to normal. Especially for Lin Yue. She stood outside her grandmother’s herbal shop one quiet evening, arranging dried flowers beneath the lanterns while golden sunset painted the streets orange. Everything looked peaceful. Yet sometimes, when the wind became cold, she still remembered black wings covering the sky. “Yue’er.” She turned immediately. Han stood across the street wearing a long black coat, hands in his pockets, watching her with that same unreadable expression from the night they first met. Except now— He smiled when he saw her. Lin Yue crossed the street quickly. “You disappeared again.” Han raised an eyebrow slightly. “It was three hours.” “That’s long enough.” A quiet laugh escaped him. Three months later, he still looked unreal beneath city lights. Pale skin. Dark hair. Golden eyes that glowed faintly whenever shadows moved nearby. But something about him had changed. The darkness surrounding him no longer felt cold. Lin Yue reached for his hand naturally. Warm. Still warm. Sometimes she checked just to make sure he was truly there. Han noticed immediately. “You’re thinking too much again.” She looked away stubbornly. “You almost died.” Han’s expression softened slightly. “And yet I survived.” “Barely.” The memory still haunted her. The Void corruption spreading through his body. The fear of losing him after finally finding him again. Han gently touched her forehead. “I promised I would stay.” Lin Yue muttered quietly, “Devils shouldn’t make promises they can’t keep.” Han smirked faintly. “And guardians shouldn’t fall in love with devils.” Her cheeks warmed instantly. “You remember that?” “Every word.” Before Lin Yue could answer, a familiar voice interrupted them. “If you two continue staring at each other in the middle of the road, humans will become suspicious.” Shen Wuyin stood nearby beneath the lantern lights, dressed in white as always. But without heavenly armies surrounding him, he looked strangely normal. Almost human. Lin Yue smiled slightly. “You came back.” Shen Wuyin sighed. “Heaven has become… complicated.” Han folded his arms. “That sounds entertaining.” “It is not.” Lin Yue blinked curiously. “What happened?” Shen Wuyin looked unusually tired. “The realms are changing after the Flame of Eternity awakened.” The evening wind became colder. Han’s expression sharpened immediately. “What kind of changes?” Shen Wuyin hesitated. “Barriers between realms have weakened.” Lin Yue frowned. “That sounds bad.” “It could become bad,” Shen admitted. “Spirits are appearing more frequently in the human world. Some harmless. Others not.” Han looked unsurprised. “The balance is still unstable.” Shen nodded slowly. “Heaven believes the Flame of Eternity should remain under supervision.” Silence fell instantly. Lin Yue’s eyes narrowed. “Supervision?” Han’s shadows darkened slightly around his feet. “That sounds dangerously close to imprisonment.” Shen Wuyin raised a hand quickly. “I did not come to threaten you.” “Then why are you here?” Han asked coldly. Shen looked directly at Lin Yue. “Because something has started searching for the Soul Flame again.” The atmosphere changed immediately. Lin Yue felt her chest tighten. “The Void Emperor?” “No.” Shen’s expression darkened. “Something older.” Even Han became silent. That alone frightened Lin Yue. “What could be older than the Void?” Shen lowered his voice carefully. “When creation first began, the universe split into three forces.” “Light,” Lin Yue whispered. “Darkness,” Han added quietly. Shen nodded once. “And chaos.” The street suddenly felt colder. Lin Yue frowned. “I’ve never heard of a third force.” “Because it was erased from history.” Han’s golden eyes narrowed dangerously. “The Primordial Chaos…” Shen looked surprised. “You know the name?” Han’s expression became distant. “Only from whispers in hell.” Lin Yue looked between them nervously. “What is it?” Neither answered immediately. Then Han spoke quietly. “Chaos existed before balance.” The lantern beside them flickered violently. “It was neither good nor evil.” Shen continued grimly. “It consumed worlds simply because destruction and creation meant nothing to it.” Lin Yue’s stomach twisted. “And where is it now?” Shen looked toward the darkening sky. “No one knows.” A terrible silence followed. Then suddenly— Every lantern on the street went out at once. The city became dark. Cold wind swept across the road violently. Humans nearby froze strangely, standing motionless like statues. Lin Yue’s heartbeat stopped. “What’s happening?” Han instantly moved in front of her. The shadows beneath the street slowly began spreading unnaturally. Not demonic. Not heavenly. Something else. Something wrong. A child’s laughter echoed softly through the darkness. But there were no children nearby. Then a voice whispered beside Lin Yue’s ear. “Found you.” She spun around instantly. No one. But the shadows behind her twisted together slowly into the shape of a woman. Tall. Beautiful. With silver eyes completely empty of emotion. Han’s expression changed immediately. For the first time in months— Fear returned to the Devil’s face. “Impossible,” he whispered. The woman smiled faintly. And the entire city trembled. “Hello again,” she said softly. Her silver gaze locked onto Lin Yue. “The Soul Flame still remembers me.” Shen Wuyin drew his glowing sword instantly. “Protect the guardian!” But the woman merely laughed. The sound shattered windows across the street. Then she looked toward Han. And whispered the words that made even darkness itself recoil. “You should never have betrayed chaos, my king.”
