Chapter 65

1185 Words
Nathan’s POV “Should we really be doing this?” Mica whispered in my ear as we crawl our way to the grass to avoid being caught by the guards.  I nodded and took a deep breath while calculating the movement of the guard patrolling in the area.   The main gate would be the best option for us to go out but it is filled with numerous cameras and guards that was even sent by the royal family themselves. Bad things happen mostly at night so their security is way strict than in the morning. I know we won’t stand a chance in there and being seen this way may lead us to be disqualified in the tournament.   ‘What are you thinking, Sal?’ I asked at the back of my head and as soon as the guard starts going to the other direction and the camera to the other side, I hurriedly ran towards the forest entrance and hide while waiting for the rest.   They followed immediately but Maria tripped on the underlying rock and caused a sound. Remus immediately used his levitation to carry her and bring her to us before anyone caught us.   “Is anyone here?” A guard asked as he pointed the flashlight near our direction. I motioned the gang to hid in the trees or anywhere as long as we won’t be seen. My heart is pounding hard when the light turns near to me. Only a few inches left and we’ll be caught in the act and I will spoil the chance of my new squad the chance to be a part of Blackport PD.   ‘You really are so stupid, Sal,’ I said at the back of my mind and wait for our downfall when a cat went out from nowhere and walks near them. The flashlight aimed at it and I heard the guards sigh and shook their head and get back to their post.   “Wew, thank God...” Remus muttered while others sigh in relief. I peek at the cat in our front. It looks like she’s blending to the night because of his black, shiny fur. The only thing that’s making it stand out is her round, yellow cat eyes. His eyes shine brighter as the moon shines on it. He is looking intently at me as if reading my entire being. My eyes widen when I saw his small mouth formed a smirk, showing his damn white fangs before jumping and is now out of our sight.   I tried looking for him but there are no signs of him anymore and Nathan’s night-blindness is not helping at all.   I closed my eyes shut and think about that bright yellow eyes that is so familiar to me. I don’t know if its on my own memories as Salvatore or Nathan but I’m sure that it is familiar as hell. I slowly opened my eyes and took a deep breath before smiling and shaking my head simultaneously.   “I’ll find you after we finish this mission.” -- “Are you doing that on purpose? Come on, Maria! I know you’re better than that!” I heard Carina screamed at the top of her lungs. Mica went to their direction and I saw Gene and Remus holding the two of them to be away from each other while Mica shoo them down.    I slowly walked my way to their direction and Mica made way for me to be near them and stop them.   “We’re still here in the academy and you’re fighting, AGAIN. We won’t get out unseen if you continue what you were doing.” I intently said and looked at the both of them in the eye. I could see the burning rage in Carina’s eyes while I can’t see anything in Maria. Her emotions are void while staring at her twin sister and then back to me and then smirk.   “Why do we even do this illegally when we can just go tomorrow morning with Sir Linux permit? Don’t you think you’re the one who wants us to get caught, Nathan?” I could feel the sarcasm in her tone as she laughs slowly and shook her head.   I looked at the rest of the gang who is now silent and avoiding my gaze.   “Is that what you also think about me?” I asked. Nobody answered but their silence screams the truth.   “It’s not what you think. I will never bring this squad into danger and risk our chance without a great sacrifice...” Maria turned back to me and scans me from head to toe before laughing sarcastically again.   “As Mica said earlier, people get lost in the night and return weird in the morning. When we go there in the morning, I’m sure we’re gonna spend anotherr day just to see what was happening at night and besides...” I took a deep breath and continued what I was trying to say.   “Sir Linux just said that we are exempted in the morning class. He never said that we should start in the morning, am I right?”   They went silent still for a moment until Gene nodded, followed by Remus, Mica and then Carina. Everyone turned their heads and looked at Maria whose expression is priceless. She took a deep breath and raised both of her hands in the air while murmuring inaudible words.   “Fine, you win.” She said and continued walking away when she stopped with what I said.   “I would also like to request that you will be good even at least until this mission is over...” She turned back and faced me with rage in her face.   “Seriously, Nathan? I’m the bad one here?” She exclaimed in disbelief. She looked at the rest of the squad and lastly to her twin who is looking intently at her. Carina took a deep breath and held her in the arm.   “I don’t understand what is happening to you anymore and it pains me seeing you like this but... Nathan is right.” She looked at my direction and smiled sadly before turning back to Maria who is gritting her teeth in anger.   “Please... Let’s be back to what we used to be when we first got here. Let’s not fight and cooperate for the betterment and accomplishment of this mission. After that then...” She took a couple of deep breaths and I could see how it is hard for her to say those words in front of her twin who just emotionlessly looked at her.   “Fine. Just for the sake of this stupid mission and after this...   I’m leaving PD and never going back.”
