Nathan’s POV
“So Mica is our healer and support, Gene will be the main attacker or the fighter because of his magical fire ability...” I looked at the two of them while encircling their names on the board I was holding. They just nod in response and seriously look at me so I continued with the rest.
“Remus will be on the side, with Gene since his ability could be used for offense or defense whenever we needed.” The former just smiled, liking the idea and urging me to go on.
“The twins Carina and Maria both with psychic ability... You will be on both ends of our triangle formation, one reason is because Carina is a sharp shooter so she could use arrows or whatever long distance weapon we could get at the combat room and as for Maria...” She looked intently at me while waiting for an answer. To be honest I never see anything about Maria as we were only together for a few days and have not much interaction but I’m really sure she got something just like us.
“I know you still don’t know how I work, and I also don’t since I’m just stuck in that hell house for a couple of years but...” She took a deep breath and smiled. “There are riddles to solve and not just fighting right?” She asked and I nodded in response.
“Well, I always read books to at least clear my mind on the unwanted voices I hear so...” She did not complete her sentence as I smiled at her and pats her at the back.
“Yes, I’ll assign you on the academic part or whatever this tournament will hold. Sooner or later we will train to know our strengths and all so there’s no need to pity or something okay?” I gently said and encircle her name on the board.
“We all got roles to play. What’s yours?” Gene asked that made everyone’s attention on me. I smiled at them and slowly raised my hand in the air.
“If anything goes wrong, I’ll control it. Be it on our side or to the others...” I muttered and finally encircled my name.
--
“Are you ready to know what tasks will be given for this mini tournament?” Sir Ichigo asked and the whole class answered simultaneously. We are currently at the field, wearing our shirts which are color coded for each team.
“Before we start, can the President please gather up the team name and their members?” I hitched my breath when the president starts walking to the first group wearing blue shirt. They discussed things and the smile on their faces seemed that they prepared for this as the president went to the next group.
We have around five groups in total including us and we were the fifth group since we went out to gather our team members.
“Hell, what’s our team name? I’m not informed that this academy is almost the same from my stupid past school,” Gene muttered while shaking his head. He was mumbling inaudible words making Remus who was on his side shrug his shoulder and watch the president go to the third group.
“So, any suggestions?” Mica asked as she looks at our direction. The twin’s eyes went up as they think for possible names and suggested ideas.
“Mighty Magicians!” Remus said with humor that made us laugh while shaking our heads. He scratched the back of his head and think of another name.
“Paranormal Hunters?”
“Monster Fighter?”
They suggested random names and the frown on our faces indicates that we are not yet ready for this. Mica was about to talk when someone speaks from behind.
“Hello, may I please know your name and your team name?” It’s the President.
We looked at each other as we said our names one by one for him to list down.
“Micaelle Cruz.”
“Carina De Caprio.”
“Maria De Caprio.”
“Remus Sly.”
“Gene Feeble.”
“Nathaniel Rosario...” I answered and look directly at the President’s eyes. There is something within him and I confirmed it when his lips formed a smirk while writing my name.
“Nice to meet your team...” There was a hint of sarcasm and competition in his voice that made me smirk back at him.
“Yeah, nice to meet yours too...” I said and look at the third group who were wearing red shirt.
Blue for team number 1, green for number two, red for theirs and orange for the fourth group. Meanwhile, our team has the most vibrant color, in all sarcasm as we are all wearing black as if attending a funeral.
“So, what’s your team name?” He prepares his pen and ready to jot it down on the list above our names. The team looked at me with uncertainty in their eyes and it instantly fades as my mouth form a gentle smile.
I look back at the president who was waiting for my answer.
“What? Haven’t you decided y—“
“Paranormal Detectives...” His words were cut off and gasps from my team mates were heard as I state our team name.
They looked shock but I didn’t see any sign that they are against it. In fact, it fueled the excitement in their eyes that made my heart beat loud.
‘They liked it...’ I said at the back of my mind and turn my head back at the president who has this grim look on his face.
“What?” He asked unbelievably. I shrug my shoulder and repeat what I had said to tease him more.
“Paranormal Detectives. That’s our team name.”
“Is there any problem over there?” I heard Sir Ichigo walking towards our direction. The class president stood firm and gave him a smile and waves at him.
“Nothing, sir. I’m just getting their team name,” he immediately answered and faked a laugh. Sir Ichigo grabbed the notepad from him and read the team names aloud.
“So here are the list of the group, just voice out your opinion if you have any problem with the line-up. So...
Psychic Magicians, The Dark Psyche, Paranormal Hunters, Monster Catchers and lastly... Paranormal Detectives.” Sir Ichigo faced us and I can’t read any emotion from his eyes. He gave the notepad back to the president as he walks back to the front.
“Fix your lines and go to your respective groups. You’ll be working as a team for the entire day.” He also stated some statements that I didn’t understand as my attention is on the president with a smug look on his face. He raised his fingers and pointed it on his neck, making a slashing motion.
“Do you think he really can scare us with that stupid move?” Gene interferes and I saw him also looking at their direction. The red team members or now known as the Paranormal Hunters avoided our gaze as soon as they see Sir Ichigo looking at their direction.
“Hush, let them be. Let’s just beat them on this tournament so they’ll know when to step down of their high horses,” Mica said. I could sense a hint of anger on her tone but I chose not to ask more questions and turn my attention back to Sir Ichigo.
“As I told last time our rules, no hurting of other teams too much or else you’ll be disqualified. Healers from the infirmary are here to look out and prepare for the wounded and fainted. Aside from that, I will now announce the other mechanics and flow of the game.” A map like presentation projected in front of us and shows red dots all over.
“The red dots are possible places within the academy where you can find the answer to your questions. I will give you riddles for each round and you can only advance to another as soon as you answered the last one. There are only 5 minutes for each round so better think and act fast. Get that?”
We nodded in response as he continues with his speech.
“Also note that this is not just a battle for strength and abilities, but also your skills, brain and most of all team work. It is the team work that makes the dream work. Now for the last question...” He roamed his eyes on the room and stop when his gaze met mine. I could feel random emotions on my chest as this feels like the first time I’m meeting with him.
Sir Ichigo is not normal and will not make everything easy and that is what I liked about him the most. No wonder he got the position of Commander on my timeline because he surely deserves all of that.
The entire class cheered wildly as he muttered his last words that set the fuel to our already burning heart.
“Are you all ready to win the game and be the best among all teams? If yes then...
Let the battle, BEGIN!”
