Snapped

Melisa was the first to spot her daughter-in-law as Lola rushed into the royal wing of the Hapoon castle hospital. “Lola?” she questioned when Lola pointed her guns at the king’s guards. Her hypervigilant eyes and facial expression told her that Lola was not playing. Lola was too breathless to explain herself to Melisa. She needed to eliminate danger before focusing all her attention on her injured husband. “Out,” she commanded the confused men. Her eyes cautiously scanned for any movement on their part. They were trained and she could not afford any mistake or she will be dead. The king and queen were just as confused at Lola’s actions. That to Lola was proof that she could not trust any of them. Surely, the guards, legends and investigators she left on the scene would have communicated what they found already. The fact that they all looked confused was suspicious to her. Melisa rushed to Lola’s side and patted her arm. “What is going on, Dear?” The gentle tone somehow calmed Lola down. Melisa would not sound like that if there was imminent danger. “The snipers are the king’s first class guards. They tried to kill Shane. We can’t trust anyone.” The guards exchanges nervous looks, wondering whom amongst their colleagues were the snipers. They were not only chosen for their abilities, but for their loyalties as well. They were from generations of families proven to be friends of the throne. “What?” the king asked in shock before signalling for his guards to leave them. He was cursing non-stop when he strolled through the photographs Lola had taken with her phone. “It’s Michael, Wesley and Benjamin,” he muttered, unable to mask his concern. Queen Mandy stumbled slightly before sitting on the nearby couch. Those were not just their first class guards, but most trusted of them all. “The Mokay. Her presence is forcing our enemies to act. You will be next,” she pointed out. Lola looked at the queen, dumbfounded while the king and Melisa nodded in agreement. “Dante is still alive because of Shane. Our enemies knew it too. To get to Dante, they have to eliminate Shane first,” the queen explained to Lola. “So the utterances at the dinner was not a dark joke,” Lola muttered more to herself than the queen. That is what the queen told her when Shane pointed that out the night before. The queen let out a sigh. “I am sorry. You looked shaken and I did not want to spook you,” the queen explained while Lola turned to Melisa. “How is he?” “The doctor said he is critical. He is still in theatre,” Melisa responded absentmindedly. Her nightmare was always losing her son and now he was critical. Lola nodded her head. She needed to be by Shane’s side when he comes out of theatre, but she could not ignore the fact that she was now responsible for the king’s safety. “If the guards are compromised, is there anyone else you trust, Your Highness?” “Drop the Your Highness. The legends, I hope,” the king was no longer certain. The legends were meant to be the most trusted overall, but someone got to his top guards. That person could also get to the legends. “You are not certain,” Lola read through him and he nodded in confirmation. “Okay, then. You know all their families. Get them here.” “Why?” the king asked, not following Lola’s trail of thought. “When people can’t be trusted, you force their loyalty.” The queen could not help but laugh at Lola’s words. “You really are the Mokay,” she declared, impressed. “I still don’t get it,” Melisa confessed. “You will, Mel. I promise you that I will die first before ever letting anyone touch Shane again.” “Honey, this had nothing to do with you. Shane has a lot of enemies,” Melisa told her daughter-in-law, who flashed her a strained smile. Melisa was right, but Lola still blamed herself for everything. She wondered if Shane would have left their bed so early had she reassured him that she would be his for life. An hour later, with the Mokay crown on her head, a sword on her side and two machine guns on her hands, Lola walked through a hall packed with all the Fosters and families of the legends. Melisa, the queen and king watched on the screen as Lola addressed the confused group. “You must all know by now that my husband was shot. Three first class guards did it. I am new here but it is obvious that they had nothing to gain from it. Which brings me to the reason you are all here.” The group exchanged looks. Not only did Lola looked intimidating, the crown on her head seemed to be emitting some sort of dangerous current and she had this terrifying aura around her. “I lost my whole family in one night. Shrinks tell me that something human in me snapped that day. Shane and Mel are my second chance at having a family. Someone here has just messed up with that!” she yelled angrily, startling many. Lola looked like she would explode any moment. “Now, listen carefully. If Shane dies, everyone here with something to gain, dies too.” Shane’s clan members all shifted uncomfortable. They did not need anyone to tell them that they were all suspects and rightly so. “But, it is Sir Henry’s family that has a lot to gain. He is the next to inherit Duke Shane’s position in our clan,” Sir James pointed out. “Nonsense!” Sir Henry cried. “Yes, you deceived me into laying that charge against the Duke and Dutchess. They won the case, this must be your backup plan,” Mike accused. He found Lola terrifying and hot-as-hell. He still could not believe how stupid he had been. “Yes, Henry. The elders and legends were influenced by you and Prince Ronald last night. You hoped that Duke Shane and his Dutchess would be executed,” Sir James added. Lola looked like she was out for blood. His priority was to preserve his family. Not only that, if Lola got rid of Sir Henry and Shane died, he would be the Foster clan head. Sir Mike let out an empty laugh at his brother’s obvious ploy. “Wipe that smirk off your face. The Duke was going to execute your dumb son. You were the last person seen with him. You perhaps led him to the place you knew the snipers would get a better shot,” Sir James latched out at his younger brother. “The Duke is more stable than you and Henry combined. He only fired Mike as the manager, but forgave him. I have no reason to kill him,” Sir Mike responded defensively. He could tell that no one believed a word he said, but that was the honest truth. He had tried to kill Shane in the past, but their last interaction told him that he had been so wrong. Shane was actually the only reason his two other brothers had not yet wiped away his family. “Save me your excuses. If Shane dies, you all do. You all have something to gain. If the doctor tells me that Shane needs a heart, kidney, whatever, I am digging it out of you. Yes, I don’t give a damn if you are innocent or not,” Lola’s words sent chills down everyone’s spines. Melisa, the king and queen also exchanged looks as they watched the scene. Lola did not look like she was bluffing. She was obviously capable. They now worried that she had indeed snapped and would wipe out everyone in the hall if Shane did not live. “This is your clan issue, I don’t understand why the rest of us are here,” it was Prince Ronald who spoke out and the rest of the group nodded in agreement with him. He cursed under his breath when Lola’s blazing eyes, and her whole attention turned to him. “We meet again, Prince Ronald. I have been made aware that everyone here is aware of the fact that the king is still alive because of my husband. Without Shane, the king is vulnerable. Do you see where I am going with this?” Prince Ronald swallowed his saliva as all eyes turned to him. “I would never try to kill the king. It is treason,” he cried dramatically, an attempt to sound innocent. “Well, I don’t care. You are a suspect in my books and quite frankly, you would be next person I kill after Shane’s clan if he dies.” “This is not the Foster way, Your Grace,” the prince pointed out, flabbergasted. “I happen to love my husband more than your Foster ways. If anything happens to my husband, you all die. If something happens to Mel, you die. If something happens to the king and queen, you die. Am I clear?” They all nodded. “Good, now get to work and find me the mastermind behind my husband’s shooting. I want them alive,” Lola instructed and left the group with their heads spinning. “They are going to murder each other!” the king cried. He knew his family too well.
