Chapter Twenty-Six
“WHERE IS EVERYONE?” I asked.
My voice echoed in the deserted central hall of the structure.
It disturbed me to see how quickly the place looked like no one had been here for years.
“They’ve gone to the city,” Reida said. “Leisha tells me he spotted a number of boats. He’s coming to the bay to pick us up. He wants to get out and go back home as soon as we can.”
“Maybe you should stay and defend the settlement here,” I said to Ynggi. “You can tell them what’s been happening. We’ll come back later to pick you up.”
“No. We’re coming.”
“Certainly not all of you.”
“Yes, all of us. When the tribe is in trouble, all of us help out. Our tribe is one. We fight as one.”
He wouldn’t change his mind.
