Ryan doesn't have the confidence of Anna. Although he is aware that his grandmother has some affection for him, he remains clueless about the reason that led to her harsh judgment. Furthermore, he acknowledges that once she has made up her mind, there's no chance of persuading her otherwise.
"It's not because you can't please your father. He has only had you as a child for so long, but you have not met his requirements. When he has another child you will see that you weren’t that important to him."
Ryan doesn't know how many times he has heard these words. He was already sick and tired today. He was already asleep when his mother called and just hearing her say this make him feel sad all over again.
"Mom, have you ever won him over? If so, why are you still Anna instead of Mrs. Jones?"
