LEXIE Wednesday morning came in quietly. I woke up feeling better than I had in a long time, the good kind of rested, the kind that came from actually sleeping properly instead of just lying in the dark waiting for morning. I took my time getting up, washed my face, pulled on my new jeans and a plain top, and went downstairs, the bar was empty. Not unusual for this hour but something was different, a sound coming from the kitchen, a scraping, and underneath it something that suggested the stove was involved in whatever was happening back there.
