LEXIE I woke up at two in the morning for no particular reason and I lay there for a while trying to negotiate with it. The negotiation failed. I got up and pulled my hoodie on and sat on the edge of the bed in the dark. The town outside was completely quiet. The bar below was quiet too, or should have been. Everyone had gone home hours ago, the lights were off when I came upstairs, the building had settled into its late night stillness. I was about to get up and go down for water when I heard his voice.
