LEXIE I woke up at eleven, which for me was practically a scandal, the room was bright, the sun well up and pushing hard through the curtains, and I lay there for a minute doing the math on how long I'd actually slept. Whatever the number was, it had clearly been enough, because I felt properly rested for the first time in days. I got up, took my time in the bath, and came downstairs still slightly damp around the edges of my hair, the bar was empty except for Chaos. No Mia clattering around the kitchen, no Crow's radio drifting in from the lot, just him at his usual end, coffee in front of him, no paperwork this time, just sitting there in the quiet Sunday light like he was enjoying having nowhere urgent to be.
