LEXIE Saturday started with Crow banging on my door at nine in the morning, which was not how I had planned to start my day off. "What," I said, opening it with my hair everywhere and my eyes barely functioning. "Bike's ready," he said, grinning like this was the best news anyone had ever delivered. "Full service. New chain, brakes checked, she's purring like a kitten." "Crow. It's nine." "It's a good time to see a bike," he said. "Light's good." "The light is always the same at nine as it is at any other hour of daylight, that's not how light works." "Come see her." I went and saw her, she did look good, I had to admit, gleaming slightly in the morning sun with Crow standing beside her with the pride of a man who had done genuinely excellent work. "She's beautiful, Crow," I said.
