Janet's pov
Martha.
Her name came out before I even thought about it. It just slipped. My lips moved on their own. My voice cracked when I said it. “Martha… where have you been?”
My chest lifted for the first time in a long while. My eyes even had a little shine, like a small fire was still there. I waited. I wanted her to answer. But she didn’t. She didn’t even look at me. She just helped me to my room.
I kept looking at her expecting her to say something, but she didn't say a word. As we got in, there was a tray of food on the table. During my time in the punishment room, they only gave me a tiny piece of bread and water, and that was it.
She didn't say anything to me, she just helped me to the bed, walked away and the door clicked shut. I kept my mouth open like I still had words,
