28 It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the Centre Labour Day weekend. Madie had arrived moments before and stood in the compound watching the activity around her. Wenner and Cody had set up tables on the grassed area that held picnic tables for visitors. Bea had been contracted to provide a feast, and she and her staff were busy putting finishing touches to the food table. Their annual summer send-off was to say thank you and goodbye to their summer volunteer staff, and interns, including family and friends. A DJ had been hired to play music and Cody and Jax had raked one of the animal compounds (now empty). They squared it off with hay bales for people to sit on.
