The waiting room in the maternity ward was overwhelmingly quiet compared to the noise decibel level and chaos in Emergency. In fact, Madie was the only person there. She was waiting for Chaz to join her. He’d called her en route to say he would be there in twenty minutes. Sydney had checked in as well and was on her way from Emerald Lake. She’d spared them both explicit details, only saying Chelsea was in surgery.
Madie placed her head back against the wall, closed her eyes, and reflected on her day. Her body ached from the hike up the hill with Corporal Jennings; she felt sweaty and dirty. I need a shower and a soft bed. Not much I can do about that right now though.
