There was a swirl of red shades, a crash of a landing, and a splash, followed by the sort of smell that led to nose-holding and gagging, as Legless and Beryl landed in the cave. A rat snarled. Legless jumped. Beryl clocked it with the battered sausage. Legless threw her a look. “Show-off.” The memoir dropped from above—smack straight onto Legless’s head. He rubbed. Beryl picked it up. “Gimme that,” he said. “I have read it, you know.” He looked at her with a “really?” Another rat appeared. Legless jumped.
