The Lighthouse

The morning air is thick with fog as Arin and Rohan approach The Veil Island in a small boat. Waves crash against jagged rocks below them, muffling all sound except for the rhythmic slap of water against the hull. “We’re really doing this,” Arin murmurs, clutching the radio tightly. Rohan places a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “We’ve come this far. We can’t stop now.” As they step onto the island, the oppressive atmosphere becomes palpable. Shadows stretch unnaturally across the ground, and whispers echo through the mist. “This place gives me the creeps,” Rohan admits. “Let’s get in and out fast.” They make their way inland, guided by the map and the faint glow of the symbols on Arin’s sketches. Eventually, they reach the lighthouse—a crumbling structure perched atop a cliff. Inside, dust covers everything, but artifacts remain scattered throughout: old photographs, journals, and trinkets left behind by those who came before. Arin picks up a journal, her hands trembling as she flips through its pages. JOURNAL ENTRY (V.O.) : Day 14: It’s taken another one. Her screams still echo in my mind. I don’t know how much longer I can hold on. She finds entries describing visions of shadowy figures and a voice promising salvation—but demanding sacrifices in return. “These people…” Arin whispers, her voice breaking. “They were trapped here.” Rohan snaps photos of everything, capturing ghostly apparitions that appear only in the camera lens. As they explore further, the whispers grow louder, surrounding them from all sides. “Leave now… or stay forever,” the voices hiss, chilling them to the bone. In the attic, they find a ritual circle drawn in chalk on the floor, surrounded by candles long extinguished. At the center lies an object—a locket engraved with the same symbols as the radio. “My grandmother’s locket…” Arin breathes, her fingers brushing against it. As she touches it, memories flood her mind—images of her parents standing on the island, performing a ritual. Her mother turns to her father, tears streaming down her face. MOTHER’S VOICE (FLASHBACK) : If anything happens to us, promise me you’ll protect her. Arin feels a lump form in her throat. “They knew,” she whispers. “My parents knew what they were getting into—and they still went there.” Rohan studies the ritual circle closely. “If this was used to summon the entity, maybe we can use it to banish it too.” Hope flickers in Arin’s chest, but fear tempers it. “And if it doesn’t work?” “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” Rohan replies firmly. Suddenly, the floorboards beneath them creak, and a door slams shut somewhere upstairs. Panic sets in as they realize they’re not alone. “What was that?” Arin asks, her voice barely above a whisper. Before Rohan can answer, the entity manifests briefly, its form shifting between shadows and distorted human shapes. Its voice reverberates through the lighthouse. “You belong here, child. Just like your parents did.” Arin clutches the locket tightly, her resolve hardening. She looks at Rohan, determination in her eyes. “We’re not leaving until we figure this out.” Back at the entrance, the entity presses its attack, slamming doors and extinguishing lights. Arin and Rohan huddle together, hearts pounding. “There has to be a way to stop it,” Arin insists. Rohan nods, pointing to the ritual circle. “Maybe the key is in the past. Let’s try to recreate the ritual.” As they prepare, the radio hums softly, its surface glowing brighter than ever. On its surface, the symbols pulse in time with Arin’s heartbeat. A new voice joins the whispers, clearer and more urgent than the others. “Arin… listen carefully. There’s a way to defeat the entity, but it comes at a cost. Meet me at the lighthouse tonight. Alone.” Arin hesitates, torn between hope and fear. Can she trust this voice—or is it just another trick? And then, the entity speaks directly to her, its voice cold and menacing. “You cannot escape your fate, child. Just like your parents did.” Fear grips her heart, but she forces herself to take a deep breath. Whatever lies ahead, she knows one thing for certain—she won’t back down without a fight.
