CHAPTER 8: I Am Interested

The man leaned in, his voice taking on a more serious tone. "The artifact is a rare and valuable gemstone, known as the Star of India. It's said to be cursed, but I don't believe in such superstitions. What I do believe in is the power of money and the influence it can buy. And this gemstone is worth a fortune."

Nightshade's eyes widened, her mind racing with the possibilities. She had heard of the Star of India, of course. Who hadn't? It was a legendary gemstone, one that was said to be almost impossible to find.

"And the client?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The man smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Ah, the client is a very wealthy and influential individual. Someone who is willing to pay top dollar for this gemstone, no matter the cost. And I'm willing to offer you a substantial sum of money for your services, Nightshade. Enough to set you up for life."

Nightshade's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with the possibilities, but she kept her cool nodding briefly as she replied...

"I'm interested," she said finally, her voice firm. "But I need to know more about the client and the risks involved. And I need to know that you'll be fair with me."

The man nodded, seeming to expect her caution. "Of course, Nightshade. I'll give you all the details. But I assure you, the risks are worth it. And I'll make sure that you're well taken care of."

Nightshade nodded, her mind made up. She would take the job, but she would do it on her own terms. And she would make sure that she came out on top.

"Let's discuss the details," she said, her voice firm.

And the man smiled, knowing that he had her on board, as he continued to elaborate further.........
